Me too! I have a round oak disk that will make a nice base.

I remember seeing part of a 50's film where the flying saucers had a cylindrical base just like the stand you are using. A door would open in the vertical wall of the "foot" for want of a better word, so that being could come and go as required.

Now I need to go to the train store for N gauge mining equipment.....

I have had a long fought with attraction to N gauge train sets and wouldn't trust myself to go to that store.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I'm in the same boat
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I still have the set I bought my son many years ago

Some astronuts....

I glued the tiniest gold colored beads I could find over their heads and painted them a nice 50s silver. They need backpacks yet.

The base so far.

I found some drywall mud in the basement closet that is "filling in" for soil.
The boulders are limestone rocks from a parking lot that had a layer of pyrite deposited on them. Good old "fools gold". It will look good for some interstellar mining.

Next is some shades of gray for soil.

Will that be fifty shades of Grey, or am I introducing thread drift?

Trick is to blend the two. You could have the rail road that moves coal and supplies for Eilson AFB in Alaska and the base tarmac covered with aircraft if you can force yourself to deal with 1/72nd and HO scale on the same table. Or go O gauge and 1/48th. Of course one 1/48th scale C-130 would cover half the display area....

Painted the base and attached the astronauts. Now for some decals. I'm thinking of naming it Atlantis using space shuttle decals.

Sounds suitably 'Skiffy' for the subject!

I'm calling this one done!

The astronauts turned out really well. I'm happy with this one all around.
The Atlantis decals fell apart so just a number for this ship.

The lighting turned out well. It changes color with different combinations of LEDs.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions along the way. This was my first real attempt at a base and I hope you all like it.

Excellent work there Kerick.
