Berlin 1947 – Return of the Nightwitches?
As relations between the Soviet Union and the Western powers soured in the aftermath of the defeat of Germany, pilots on night flights in and out of Berlin began to report that they were being repeatedly intercepted and harassed by all black twin engine aircraft over the Soviet occupied zone.
The RAF decided to bring in some of their experienced Night Fighter crews, to counter this nuisance and they soon identified that these aircraft were operating German radar equipment, and the assumption was made that the Soviets Air Forces had refurbished captured Luftwaffe aircraft and were using these to patrol over the Soviet Zone and along the air corridor into Berlin. This was subsequently confirmed when an enterprising  passenger on a C-47 managed to capture on film by use of a flash bulb the silhouette of one of the aircraft which was identified as an Arado Ar-240c, this later being confirmed by members of a BRIXMIS team who were able to photograph the aircraft on the ground. From the BRIXMIS reports, it was apparent that at least some of the crews were all female, and the nickname Nightwitches was applied to these pilots. The Ar-240 Nightfighter in Russian service was given the NATO reporting name Flashbulb.

Here is my finished PTS-M (57). Called 57 as it has 57 different varieties of ex soviet vehicle cobbled together to build it. I am not really happy with the outcome of this build as I got dust stuck on the inside of the windows, I wanted to make some wipers for the windows, but didn't have anything suitable for the job, and I am really rubbish at hand painting large areas, which was made worse by one of the paint colours I wanted to use going on one.
Anyhow, here is is.
