Extending the radiator bath (or going P-51 style) would also eliminate the possibility of a belly stores rack. If you're going for a larger engine, why not just stick with the late-model Spitfire wing radiators?

All true....

I eleminated the under wing radiators to avoid a look too close to a Spit. Probably wing root inlets would be an option?

Well, on the Alternate History board I gave a brief summary of the planes as used by the RSAF (see below). In it´s final appearance engine power has grown up to 1400hp. A larger radiator thus would make sense - as would under wing installations too, probably. What I never figured out is what kind of modifications could be expected to the cowling. Speaking of stream lining of cowling and canopy is one thing - drawing it.....

Fortunately, you don't need to figure it out: Heinkel did it for you..... ;D

Heinkel He.112 V10 with Db.601 engine:

This info from the Squadron/Signal book Heinkel He 112 in action, aircraft no.159, ISBN 0-89747-352-3. If you're interested in the He-112, this book is gold dust, and it isn't even expensive.

Jesus, is that bird ugly!

Will probably try and get that book....

I've been away for a couple of weeks. I *LIKE* the He-112 with Spit cropped wings and the original He-112 canopy. Dunno if you've already seen it, but I did one (He-113T) that is on the second-to-last page of this thread. It had a He-162 "bubble" canopy, a Mustang (narrowed) under-fuselage radiator, and Spit 22 wings (plus 4-bladed prop).

I really do like the fuselage look of the He-112. The engine was the Jumo 210, I believe, and might need an upgrade. My upcoming He-100/113 will end up having a "Nanzan" nose and radiator setup to fill the bill.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Haven't visited this thread in a long while. Since then, I have indeed succumbed to "He-100 fever" and made a "He-113" to my liking. The build thread is at:

But I will post a pic here that shows my scaled up "113" version in desert livery alongside a more-or-less "stock" He-100 that I did as a carrier fighter:

The front canopy looks like it was taken from a Blackburn Skua! I suspect that the central pylon was made from the Lindberg "display stand"!!

Still, *ANY* He-100 derivative will catch my eye!

Well, the canopy came from a Boulton Paul Defiant but vacuformed by me, The central float came from a Smer Macchi S79 cloned in resin. The union with the float came from a 1/600 New Ray base of a plane.

Looks to me like it needs more bracing.  That central strut looks like it would snap on the first heavy landing.  Very graceful, I'll grant you but a bit too spindly for my likes.   Otherwise an interesting model.

You are right, I have sacrificed all logic to find a very specific aesthetic, but it's my way of doing things and never get what I want, I just settle.

Heinkel He-100 as a real fighter (not a record plane) with conventional radiators.

Will die without understanding this world.

For a laminar flow airfoil like the P-51's, which planform would be better from an aerodynamic standpoint: The Heinkel He-112 or the Supermarine Spitfire?
That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

Default Setting

Didn't the He-112 require significantly more man-hours to build than the Me-109? In which case it might be a trade-off between quality and quantity.
