Running from Ca. to Az spotted these

Down the road from the motel is an antique car dealership with a halftrack sitting outside pics tomorrow :tank:

OK, the first machine looks like an M47 Patton.  The others in various schemes appear to be M48s, or maybe M60s.  The 6x6 amphibious thing is a DUKW.  What then is the funky-looking red and white contraption?  I'm completely at a loss.  Nice photos, though.

Im pretty sure it is a T-55 converted to fire fighting duties, i think some eastern block countries used them. If you look you will see the distinct gap between the first and second road wheels, the sirens on top and even a nozzle at the vehicles front...Tanks are so cool... :tank:

Thanks, Taiidantomcat!  I had no idea such a thing even existed.

Would be one of those things that "stumps the JMN" if you set it on the table!

Cool. I love Shermans. I've always wanted to build one, or two....that's one thing I've yet to really get into, exploring CDN armour history.

Any idea how many tanks are preserved across the US ? Is there a site out there for such ?

If you ever get over this way, check out the Military Museum in Calgary, it's recently been expanded and there's Canadian Navy and Airforce items there too.
Here's a few pics out the armour

Mmmm...armour.....

The link is actually quite a dud. It's hard to find anything ! I was looking for a list, so if you were doing a roadtrip you could plan out a route to see as many as you could.

The Calgary museum sure has grown ! Is that the one with the Seafire etc ?

The Calgary museum used to be called The Museum of the Regiments Todd , which was opened to honour the four regiments formed here at the beginning of WW.I, but when the Government closed down Currie Barracks it had only been open for a few years. HMCS Tecumseh is/was just a couple of miles up the road and that is/was where the Seafire Mk.XV, Sea Fury and Banshee were displayed along with a lot of Navy stuff, guns, torpedos, turrets etc. (you might wonder why there was a Navy base 800 miles from the nearest sea or ocean, well a good majority of Canadian built ship's turrets were built at the CP yards in Calgary and many local fabrication shops were involved with building parts of ships and I think the base was formed as a sort of controlling office for all the various bits being made here)

Then some faceless bright spark decided to amalgamate the various military museums all to one place and as a lot of money had gone into the Museum of the Regiments it was decided that instead of ripping it down, that it would be expanded and HMCS Tecumseh moved into the new wing and the name was changed to Military Museum.  There will be quite a few of the Aerospace Museums exibits displayed there too, the CF-116 seen in the background being one of them.
