This will be the place for the rules which we will sort out much nearer the time.

However the GB will start on 1st November 2021 and finish on 31st January 2022. Moderators will be Aeroplanedriver and crudebuteffective, thankyou gentlemen
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Right you lot!  Almost time to dust of those Gunship Ideas.  The basic rules are the same as other GBs, but we wanted to open up the floor for a discussion of the scope of the GB.  To review, here are the 'Classic Rules' with Rule 2-Scope open for discussion.

The Gunships GB draft rules.

1. Group Build runs from 00.01 Monday 1st November 2021 to 24:00 Monday 31st January 2022.

2. Scope

3)  You may build, draw or write as many entries as you like (good luck!).  The posting of in-progress pictures is encouraged as always.  Back stories - however long or short - win extra points.  Well OK they don't but they're always nice to see.

4) "Preparation" work is allowed prior to the start of the GB - this includes the cutting out and cleaning up of parts, even printing your own decals, but anything involving paint or glue is not allowed.

5) Part-started models will be considered by the moderators. You should explain what you have done or post pics (even better) and they will decide, their decision being final - we are relying on the honour of our membership to uphold this rule.

6) No rule 6 - is there ever a rule 6 ? It's one rule or another so from now on it's 6

7) Moderators – AeroplaneDriver and crudebuteffectivet

Sooo....Scope then?  So far this is what we are thinking to make the GB as inclusive as possible without overdoing it.  Feel free to chime in with thoughts and opinions. That is the point of this whole post.  All input will be considered if not necessary acted upon.  We'll give it a couple of weeks to discuss then seal the final Scope rule around mid-October so you can all begin drawing your fiendish plans.

Rule 2-  WHAT IS A GUNSHIP?
Any aircraft, land vehicle or ship that has been
1 significantly up gunned (numerically or size wise)
2 had its main armament changed to all gun from other armament
3 had guns added to previously unarmed

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Would a Monitor type ship count as a Gunship ?

#3 would include AC-47, AC-119 and AC-130 as unarmed aircraft converted to very effective strafers for example. The AC-130J today can carry Hellfire missiles so a step in the other direction for this GB. And then there are all those whiffy gun trucks from Vietnam and the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. Also look up, if you can find it anymore, the Alabama Slammer, not the mixed drink, which was a stripped out M113 hull mounted on an M800 series truck frame. Definitely whiff material.

#2 makes me think of the B-25 in the Pacific theater with the nose packed with 0.50 cals. Did some of these aircraft ever give up carrying bombs? I'm surprised they never, to my knowledge, upgunned to include some 20mm. Hmmmm.... Whiff material!

#1 makes me wonder about perhaps my long standing plan to build a "StuG" version of an M-41'Walker Bulldog tank upgunned to 90mm or even 105mm or perhaps an APC type covered in various machine guns. Then there is the Israeli Acharzit, Namachon or Namer. Please forgive my spelling. Some RW whiffs in that bunch.

Well, that's my barely coherent thoughts on the matter. I'm on meds so don't pick on me. My surgery is Oct 5th so maybe back to normal after that. ASAP I hope.

Someone here built a coastal defense type of ship with I think was a USS Arizona hull and I believe 1/72 nd Sherman tank turrets for main guns. It was pretty cool.

I like the Rules, a perfect amount of restriction to keep the theme tight, but still plenty of wiggle room for creativity.

Might want to clarify if a bit of non-gun armament is allowed- like hanging a few hellfires or folding fin rocket pods on a gunship or truck.  Perhaps something like: secondary armament of missiles, bombs, lasers, less-lethal systems, rockets etc. is permitted, but the primary armament shall be projectile-type guns, mortars or cannons.

Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

I might dig out the Space Shuttle kit from my stash and add on a bunch of "Lasers"  ;)

Have to get one of these to go with it - https://milspecmonkey.com/store/patches/243-shuttle-doorgunner.html

Hmm, the scope does not ring many bells here, even though I have a project in store that might fit.

Besides: how about chainsaws?  Would adding them count as "up-gunning", too? Probably not, I guess?

I was going to say don't forget space gunships.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

As long as it's got lots of guns or fewer big honkin' guns I would say yes.  We wanted a broad scope to get as much interest as possible so as long as it's armed to the teeth, I say go for it
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

My personal thoughts on non-gun armaments would be they are fine as long as they are secondary and as long as you say the main armament is guns. I'd throw lasers/blasters out as ok for primary.  An AC-130L gunship armed with laser turrets or an upgunned Imperial Walker would fall within scope I think.

As long as they are mounted on the front of an old Lincoln Continental that should be awesome.

I second that
