1) Group Build runs from 12am EDT September 4th to 12am EST Saturday December 14th.
2) Any subject, any scale - but must be a what if. Fictional countries welcome
3) You may build as many entries as you like.
4) "Preparation" work is allowed prior to the start of the GB - this includes the cutting out and cleaning up of parts, even printing your own decals, but anything involving paint or glue is not allowed, at least for prize winning. If you've got something started, go ahead and throw it in.
5) Prizes! Yes, there will be prizes, though other than a Norman Friedman US Destroyers Book, they're still up in the air. I'll probably go to Dean's Model Stop in Flushing, MI and look for a couple rare kits in the next few weeks and offer them up.
6) The posting of in-progress pictures is encouraged as always.
Any questions? Other than "Did you rip off someone else's GB rules?" The answer is "yes," I plagiarized Nev's because I'm lazy :P
I'm out of here for the weekend, so any questions won't be answered until the afternoon of September 3rd.
EDIT: Forgot to mention this: My motivation for this is to honor in a (very) small way those who do what they do "So that others may live."
I've always felt this deep respect and appreciation for Coasties and SAR folks. I think building Coast Guard/SAR models will bring their mission, though mundane and unexciting it may be to most, to light, at least for us.
Help me say "Thank you" in only the way we Whiffers can: Build outrageously creative toys that they'll never get, yet are so very cool to look at.
Like it matters, but I'm extending this build another two weeks to December 14th (since EVERY other GB uses the extension, I am to!).
Extend-o-rama ! A new idea for a never ending GB ?
:P
Sounds good to me, bro. I've got one Merlin nearing completion, plus the other to paint, and one other 'secret' that's about half way painted. Beer keeps getting in the way, tho. I'm either to drunk, or to hungover......viscious cycle.
Really? Hmmm...I wasn't even going to try when it ended this week, but now...

You too, eh?
:drink:
Phew! I thought I was having to drop out because I was going to be late with mine, I've had a sudden influx of work which is going to seriously cut into modeling time. The extra couple of weeks might be enough.
Robert
I vote we vote for another extension !
More time.....I need more time !
( and less booze, but it's kind of a bad time of year for that ! )
:dum:
Yes me too, I've not been able to progress my project either, mainly due to difficulties and festive season parties.
Robert
Since I haven't been able to make any deadline so far, I wasn't going to ask for another extension, and honestly, I probably need till mid January anyway, but what the heck, yes, another extension would be nice.
I did actually get some plastic cut though, I'm waiting on decals and then I have to run off for a wedding/family reunion out of the country.
Allright, January it is ! Does the 15th sound good to you guys ?
Oh, right.....I'm not the admin !
But, comrades, this IS a collective, so the People's voices are heard!!
JANUARY 15th, comrades! I should actually finish by then as well :dum:
I'll have to pull my finger out but any extention is good for me, Thanks Anthony.
Extend-o-rama !
:o
You wish! I ain't letting this one become the perpetual motion GB!
I'm dead in the water on my builds, but there's been some nice ones coming out.
Two days!
Zee Comrade has spokeen !
Where's my beer ?

Probably same place mine is: The fridge!
Eh, don't worry about not finishing. We can always finish our builds up in Phoenix GB 2: Revenge of the Son of the Phoenix!

What time on Tuesday please.
Midnight !
But I'm guessing Anatoly will give ua a few minutes, plus or minus............
Midnight? which time zone?
Midnight in your time zone.....no geographic panalties will be incurred. Even if you are an Albertan !
I might be using BC time myself.......
Hell, use Hawaii/Alaska if you want. I won't see this site until about this time tomorrow, so if you beat me back, you're in.
Pffft......today is only the 14th, tonnes of time !
And I'm out. The decals didn't make it, so my marathon sanding session was for naught. :banghead:
I'll post the final pics I took today and relegate this to the next Phoenix Build.
Good luck guys!
Thanks for trying, man !
Looking forward to seeing some pics.
Cheers !
Out of interest, how long does the voting period run?
It's probably over already, Robert. Only about 4 people on this whole site will go thru the trouble of voting.
:banghead:
Heh... oops...
Voting is open until January 27, 2008.
And I've already got SIX people who have voted! We're already ahead of the curve!
BTW, voting's done for this one, just haven't had a chance to tally the votes up. Will do so on Friday.
Thanks everyone for taking part in this GB. I wish there were more completed entries, but quite a few potential participants dropped off the forums over the years, and real life got in the way of at least a few of us.
Maybe we'll revisit this theme in the future. I know I had a blast (when I had time to build).

hmm! I wonder which Friday Anthony was talking about ;D
Originally last Friday, then last week went to hell in a handbasket workwise.
I'll get them up this week. Not tonight, though, since it took two hours to drive home (normally a 20 minute commute) due to the sixth (or is it seventh?) winter dumping of the season.
Global warming? Yes, I'm all for it now.

I don't want to rush things but I'm getting excited <_< believe it or not, this is the very first GB I've ever done, on line or anywhere.
