Title: "what If" Spacecraft Documents
Post by: Orionblamblam on December 09, 2007, 08:14:25 PM
Several very early Apollo/Saturn papers, late '60's manned Mars vehicle design documents, a Titan III with *four* solid rocket boosters, and a sale on Aerospace Projects Review:

Titan IV with 4 SRBs?  Wouldn't that rival the Saturn IB?  Why was our braintrust so shortsighted?

Yes, it would. UTC - builders of the SRBs - also had plans for parachute recovery of the bosters. Had this gone forward, then either the Shuttle SRMs would ahve been made far better, or not at all... based on the much cheaper lessons from the recoverable 120-inch SRMs.

Yes. I have some very good drawings of some of those that one of these days I'll clean up and make available.
