Here are two outstanding aircraft (IMHO) that never made it; one made it to flight test with about 10 examples being made until the project was cancelled in the early 70s, the other only made it to the mockup stage, but would have made a fine airplane.

Both very, very nice. I've gotten good close looks at the both of the Cheyenne's at Fort Campbell and Fort Rucker, respectively. Neat helicopters.
I think the US wasn't very interested in anything Starfighter-derived after its bad experiences with the F-104A. Shame, really, as the Lancer corrected many of the Starfighter's faults.
