this little bugger has been sitting on the bench untouched for over 6 months now, so i decided to just get it over with and finish it.
it is to become part of the 1/144 Aircraft carrier i build some time ago (BNS Dendermonde). in the Back Histry, the Belgian Navy obtained 48 ex-US Navy FJ-3's in the late 50's to replace the Sea Fury FB.11's. they saw action during the independance war in the Belgian Congo in 1962 and shot down 4 Angolan MIG-15's. after the conflict they were replaced by the F-4B Phantom and were demoted to ground attacks, the FJ-3 stayed in service until 1967, when they were replaced by the A-6A Intruder.
the model is a 1/144 Trumpeter F-86F Sabre, the only modification i gave it was an arrestor hook as the FJ-3 was basicly a navalised F-86.
here are some pictures, the first 2 being the carrier trials on BNS Dendermonde
Nifty little project there Nils
Nils,
You ought to include it in the Navilized GB.
That's really nice Nils ! Love the Sabre and these wee builds of yours. The red really sets off the typical naval scheme. Very cool !
The idea of a Belgian carrier is weird (did they get the country afloat?) - but overall very nice. The Fury is very overlooked, but has some serious whiffing potential, especially for NATO countries (did a Dutch one some time ago, with low waterline camouflage). Sweet lil' bird!
Superb Build,Nils     Really looks Great as a Carrier Bird! Keep up the Superb Work       Dan
