Title: Porsche Typ 180 & Tiger III
Post by: ysi_maniac on July 28, 2010, 06:35:01 AM
This Porsche project, called Typ 180 and VK 45.01 (P2), existed. It began in May 1941 and was cancelled in November 1942 mainly due to problems with engines.

This project is another not finished for a GB (alt Luftwaffe, in this case) ;D :banghead: ;D

Hermann Goering Division was a Luftwaffe armoured division http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallschirm-Panzer_Division_1_Hermann_G%C3%B6ring
My Alt history may be that the Luftwaffe has problems to get supply of Henschel's King Tiger, as these were almost exclusively reserved for Waffen SS, them H.Goering manages to firm a contract with Porsche to produce this tank exclusively for Luftwaffe Panzer units.

With remains of the 2 Fujimi models and a scratchbuilt turret, I plan something in this line

As some of you know, Krupp proposed to install the 105 mm Kw.K. L/68 in the turret of Königs Tiger. I assume that it would be Tiger III. But IMO, that big gun would need a bigger turret or, at least, a balanced one with a heavy bustle. A more practical alternative to Löwe.

This is my proposal for Tiger III, with mentioned remains:
