Title: The 2010 Whiffies Stats thread
Post by: philp on March 11, 2011, 05:05:35 PM
Since people asked, figured I would provide what I have.

30 members added info to the Sway thread which is where all the nominations came from. This is up from the 21 who used the thread in 2009.

There were 920 votes cast in the final voting compared to 1012 last year.  We did have 3 less categories so that probably attributed to the number being lower.

Jets and Alternate Markings got the most voters with 56 in each.  The Whiffie of the Year only had 50 voters and 8 categories had at least 50 voters which is down from the previous year.

The lowest number of votes cast was 40 in Figures and Autos had 41.

Jet aircraft had the most kits in the Sway thread with 67 in the initial nomination poll.  Alternate markings was second with 48.  May change how this works for the next year.  This year I pretty much put a sway thread nom in everything I felt it fit, not just what the person who added it thought.

The 3 personal categories did not get the required 5 nominations (the 2 Most Improved categories and the Most Helpful).  Pretty sure I won't have them set for next year.

One of the things that came up back when I first started this was that the same people would always win.  I did a tally on all three years and show that we have had 40 people win in that timeframe.  There have been a few multiple winners (HOG had 4 total over the first 2 years and Alvis took 4 this year but 3 of those were with the same build) but only 14 of the 40 have multiples.  This year there were several first time winners showing that no matter who you are, if you build appeals to the masses (or at least the small masses that vote) you have just as much chance to get an award.

As always, the Academy appreciates any and all feedback.

Thanks Phil! Great insight. I especially like the paragraph about multiple winners. Every model has a shot

Re multiple winners, I've won a whiffie each year, but I've won in a completely different category each year (Back story, Autos and Figures) In fact, looking at the nomination threads and vote threads, you don't see that many names repeating as people apparently feared.
