A thread for all subjects black and batty........
Having just bought the Polar Lights Batplane on a whim, I now find myself wondering what, as a whiffer, to actually do with it. Of course, I could paint it any colour I like, but with the scalloped flying surfaces, it's always going to look like nothing else except a Batplane. My only real idea so far is to take it very seriously: it's a fairly crappy old 1960s kit of a silly, fictional subject (plug-in undercarriage with no bays, heads-on-a-shelf cockpit etc...) so you could take the mickey out of the JMN brigade by lavishly super-detailing and "accurising" it the way they'd do with yet another F-16/Spitfire, complete with exhaustive list of mods.....
There is one interesting, if difficult "accurisation" you can, or at least could, do: the Polar Lights re-pop has downwards-curved wings which they never questioned while they were laser-scanning an old Aurora one as a pattern, since they look pretty "batty", but in fact, the wings are meant to be straight. Aurora's quality control was poor, and a lot of these sprues were taken out of the mould while still too hot, and subsequently sagged: Polar Lights copied a cockup! ;D
Apparently, someone was making a set of resin replacement straight wings for a while, but the thread where I found all this also had a post from the man himself, saying that he was no longer doing them. People have also tried straightening the original ones with heat/hot water etc... but apparently, the plastic is quite resistant.
Hmmm, I have Polar-Lites' Star-Trek Scorpion which also has downward curving wings (4 of them !) -- seems to be favourite thing with them
I'd have thought that "accurising" the Batwing was essential -- you definately need to buy the Eduard pre-painted seat-belts for it.
Also add the motorised wing-flap option ....
I have built the two movie Bat boats as is and have the '66 Batboat still to do. I got PLs new 24th scale snap kit of the only true Batmobile and plan on doing it right. Has got to be my fav movie/TV vehicle with Ecto and Herbie very close.
I've actually been thinking of doing my Fisher Model and Pattern 1/24 Alfa-Romeo Bertone B.A.T. 5 as a Batmobile.
A paint scheme that would give a few hard-core car modellers apoplexy. ;D

Nice ! The Batplane profiles are wicked !
the batmobile from the batman/judge dredd crossover was pretty cool

Batman Batpod (the folding motorbike thang) But why the FRACK is it 1/25th scale not 1/24th?

Quite right - corrected: cheers!
at a guess, its easier to do the maths, or possibly to ensure that whiff minded folks cant use it for "non standard" things

Given that the only thing behind her behind is the back tire, you might not be happy for long.....
We don't have a drool emoticon, right?
One thing about the Batpod kit. According to Culttvman, no figure is included. So, does that mean the aftermarket people are going to give us an optional Batman/Catwoman to go with your kit?

I'm usually not a fan of ruining a good bike pic by draping a (even naked) woman over it .... but in this case .....
No wonder the cameraman lingers on that shot at the end for so long
Screen-grabs taken ...... just wish I could've used my real hand .....
If one puts Batman in the 1930's thru late 1940's:
Taking a Trumpeter 1/38 MiG-3, putting a spatted MLG and some bat ribs and bat scallops on the trailing edges should look the part quite nicely. A Tomahawk could serve the role well too if one were to bring the cockpit quite a bit aft.
As far as a transport, Bruce could pop about here and there with Alfred in a Wayne Pipistrello yes?
both the Mig-3 & P-40 have already been given that treatment by modellers, they're shown on one of our "found whiffs" pages ;)
has anyone here have, or built, the new Batpod bike from Mobius ? It looks very basic & poor (lacking many details) for the money asked even tho it's 6" long.
I'm thinking of a radical mod to a sci-fi thing.
There's a couple of things here about it.

thanks AirCav -- the geek on that vid does waffle on a bit ;D
Looks like the same basic stuff as Polar Lites does - slightly brittle high-impact plastic with a limited number of simplified parts so some cutting & replacing of bits like the steering-ram arms. Disappointed that it doesn't include the Batman rider (available later in a 4-figure set) which I could modify into the rider that I want to show.
I just may get the 1/25th Tumbler car when they do it tho, as the only other one available is the very big Mattel one -- Bandai did a 1/35th one (perfect for me) but it was always very expensive, hard to find & even harder to get via non-Japanese hobbyshops or internet.
this is what I'm aiming for ...

It was produced in resin a long time ago as part of, among other things, a line of 1/24th space troopers & aliens rather in the same style as Ma.K.
The rider looks more like Ironman but maybe a future version of the BatPod ???
The cycle didn't interest me that much from it's time in the 2nd film but seeing that Catwoman will take it for a spin in the new one did peak  my interest. So hopefully another set of figures gets released closer to the new film.
The word from Culttvman is that there will be a five-figure Batman set for the vehicles; BTW, the Moebius deluxe kit of the Batmobile is really good.
Other than that.....

I bought the Corgi Batplane a few years back...what a neat machine. It reminds me of a Scorpion or a hopped up CF-100. Would make a good VTOL bird as well ( if you were gonna whif one up ). Lots of fun to play with, especially with that button the operates the jack-knife like wing mechanism !

Well my first thought on looking at that Bat Plane was - Buccaneer, definately the nose area
A little bit offtopic, BUT...

P-40 Batplane
Hornby did a few basic kits from the Scalextric range, one of them being a TVR Tuscan T400R. I fancied battying on but they're not easty to get hold of. The Tuscan just screams Batmobile to me, the shape of the bonnet even has the batmask ornament!
Batman even had a batmobile version of the TVR Speed 12 in one of the comics.

What aircraft is the Batplane based on as it looks in some angles to be the Voodoo?
