Anyone guess where I'm going with this ;)? Could easily go pear-shaped so please don't expect miracles.
Yes you have........blimey....something asymmetrical...???
Bv-38?
On the right track with the BV- designation ;D. Great fun all round. Might call it a Nockneed....?

I think I'm going through a seaplane thing. Built a Catalina Ekranoplan some years ago....might revisit that area.
The propeller/spinner is a temporary fit....will be five-bladed.
aargh ... a floatplane!

Loving the build, by the way
Sadly not. I built it during one of my long battles with the "Black Dog" and broke it up shortly after (my son still hasn't forgiven me as he wanted it)...part of a creator/destroyer dark mindset I was in. Fear not as I intend to rebuild...it was great fun. Will post an update photo soon...gone over to a twin mainfloat as I was deeply unhappy with the single float concept....probably would have sunk.
Here we go...frees up the mainplane for some ordnance. This is based on the P-38M with rear cockpit. Observer will have a periscope ( a la a-26 Invader) for aiming the rear stinger behind the engine. I think It's mainly a scout/recon/torp concept giving the pilot and observer a clearer view.
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1357.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fq756%2Flibrarian2%2FP1050134_zps408477e7.jpg&hash=48b62f4b8c5875917dfaa1df6ffc0793673633ea)
The floats are from a Seiran and the engine cowling from a P-51A...other bits courtesy of the spares box.
That's so TOTALLY crazy that it's brilliant!

A high honour . I find myself in deep admiration of his designs. Really want to have a go at a pushmepullyou spitfire one day. Thanks for the kind comments all.
bonkers
be fun when you pulled the trigger and drew a line from left to right
Funny thing is, that's been bothering me. Would need some kind of automatic spoiler over port to counteract. I suppose if you're torping a ship you kick the rudder anyway to keep the gunners heads down.
My uncle flew some missions with the IID (?) Hurricane and told me of a hair-raising incident when the 40mm guns went out of sync....nearly took his rudder off :-\!

One thing I don't see working well so far is the tail - it's position and size.
In their own "Float-lightning" design Lockheed changed the original tail -
QuoteOne problem that needed to be addressed was the tail section. The tail would pose problems during takeoff and landing on the water. One way to address this problem was to raise the entire tail section. Wind tunnel tests revealed minimal performance loss.
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fupload.wikimedia.org%2Fwikipedia%2Fcommons%2F4%2F43%2FP-38E_scorpion-tail.jpg&hash=1d058bba7209c7712505047300560e46b040a152)
Now you chopped up one of the tails, leaving the second one in it's original size. I wonder if the a/c can turn at all...
But still, "This is a whiffer's world..." as James Brown sang ...or something similar at least ;D . I like the "loon".
That would certainly make sense. A hard water landing would probably have caused serious metal fatigue to the original boom, as thin as it was. I considered replacing the tail early on (still am to be honest) but nowadays its all in the building and a little more in the whiffie. Very nice ! Neat idea too. I liked the original float combo better, but I guess this way makes more sense.
Great job !
Haven't really committed myself to anything new since the return from Hols but I really wanted to upgrade this rather unique aircraft. I didn't like the colour scheme, mission plan, original vertical tail and angle of floats. The nose section has been replaced with the part for the droopsnoot, tail replaced, floats re-angled and colour scheme changed. New contraprop for better stability etc:

Our friend ericr built a genius asymmetric float-Mustang. I may check where it is on this site. And I made several asymmetric Mustang drawings. Most is on my site http://www.kristofmeunier.fr/Suite_Mustangs_V.htm

ah, thanks a lot for the appreciation
my assymetric Mustang has less balanced floats than this P-38,
which is even greater with the Droop nose indeed, especially doubles-up with the twin seat :
does that make a three-crew P-38?
Pilot, observer and gunner....I was going to delete the rear gunner and his remote barbette but I can't....like it too much.
So many ideas for the Mustang now.... ;D.
I like the plan for the pushmepullyou flying ring. I have a rotodome from a defunct Hawkeye that might just work .

POA = Patrol Observation Attack.

She's called the OA-38N, a Fast Fac. Thanks for the link.
Thanks for the name!
Can you explain further this OA-38N? With radial engines (air-cooled?), what are the (usual) "coolers" on the rear of the booms for? Another device? Or is this a prototype using standard parts from the P-38 production line? ;D
Although she's only carrying smoke rocket pods she can carry offensive weapons as well (and has a single 7.62mm minigun in the nose) so I gave her the Observation Attack designation.
The scoops were kept 'cos:
1) They equate to the wing scoops on an F4U or cowlings on other aircraft. I wanted to keep the cowlings clean.
2) I like them ;D

Thanks to everyone. I really enjoy the asymetrics more than most but ideas are a bit thin. Going to have a really good long look through Tophe's page for inspiration....just noticed that Special Hobby have released in 1/48 the He115. Now there lies a contender ;D.
Thanks for this idea. I have drawed tonight an asymmetric He-115 at http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,20326.msg613906.html#new but not as 3-view cause it seems almost impossible to build... Let your imagination fly, Librarian, and tell us how to do. ;D

NOW she's finished. Went for a Marines machine but had to get rid of the red. I just don't like the colour too much and I was trying to cure myself :banghead::

Fun with Lightnings....hmmm, what next :
I think this is excellent Tophe I really do.
One thing though. Do you think on a real aircraft the combination of large tail fin placed atop such a narrow boom section might result in tail separation in a tight turn? Maybe a fillet attached to the fin would alleviate this?
:o  (to both of them)
