In the early 50's, the new Israeli Air Force was able to obtain some F-82 Twin Mustangs. Initially, they formed the bulk of their night/all weather interceptor force. As they were replaced by jets, they were converted into ground attack fighters. The conversions were completed locally. All the radar equipment was deleted. New tiptanks were added along with additional hard points under the wings.
The kit was the Monogram (now Revell) F-82E,F, G kit. Tiptanks were added using some 1/48 bombs from the spares box. New pylons were added. Additional rockets and bombs came from a second F-82 kit. The napalm tanks came from the spares box.

Yowzers ! Nice one Ed ! Sure looks the part. Great selection of weapons. Love the yeller' tanks and the tip tanks really add to it as well. The camo looks perfect !
Great stuff
:banghead:
Good work
This is a VERY nice one! The Israeli colors suit her well, and great finish, too. Deserves a whiffy nomination!
Excellent stuff Ed, and you can imagine the IDF could have used some F-82s too.
Love it! Certainly packs a punch.
That looks great, and it's very plausible too. I particularly like the bomb tip-tanks.
Great idea! Like the load-out also. Still have the 50 cals. in the center section I assume?
I like that Ed  very nicely done ----
Looks very good

Sort of like this one I did a couple years ago.

Yeah, I got something similar on my mind - slightly different though. Single horiziontal stabilizer (P-82 style, but deeper - probably from a Fw 189), different landing gear (main gear retracting rearwards into fuselage, maybe twin wheels - IMHO, using the original wide track landing gear looks a bit awkward, and overall too flimsy for such a big aircraft), and maybe a jet booster nacelle under the central wing section (got one left over from a He 162): as a heavy daylight interceptor.
Should be a single-seater, though, just like your creation, based on the D-9 from Italeri. Nothing concrete yet, collecting ideas - but this haunts me.
If I see it correctly, you constructed the mid wing section from two halves of the original aircraft - I might try to create a flat, new piece.
Thank you for posting this one - confirms my idea/impression, and it looks great in the whitewash cammo.
But it might take months until we get there, so much other things on the bench... :-\
