Title: Focke Wulf Ta 183 N (Nächtjäger)
Post by: PACOPEPE on February 19, 2014, 09:46:38 AM
Another "projekt" of the very interesting Jet Nächtjägdeswader.

Who's conversion is it, and could it be adapted to fit a NOVO Attacker?

Great work, mixing resin and plastic and vacform?

ANYTHING can be adapted with a good saw and some putty...  ;)

I see what you mean, though - the mix could be really interesting!

I think it's by a German outfit called Bird Models.  If you're thinking about doing the Attacker trainer from it, I wouldn't bother as the profile's different.  Send me a PM with your email, Dave, and I'll send you  set of Attacker trainer plans.

Think that's a non starter, TBH.  The radar gadgy's position is smack bang where the fuel tanks are, so it'll have very short legs in terms of loiter time.  On top of that, I think it's totally fictional - none of the Luftwaffe projects books mention a two set Ta 183 and all the jet nightfighters Tank's team developed were far larger two and three engined aircraft.

I did a single seat version years back with a Berlin radome cut down and a lot of filler.  Underwing tanks and X4 missiles from a Dragon P.1101.

I think Lee is right about it being fictional. Which means it well and truly has a rightful home on this site ;D

Yes, it´s a whiffie...., a very interesting conversion (White Cat models), i think.

It remember me to a REAL version of the Mig 15, with the radar in the same position.

That's a very kind offer Lee, but I was asking out of curiousity, no plans to whif an Attacker (at least not that way).

I assume the base kit is the PM Ta153?  Never seen one out of its box but I seem to recall it's quite a squat little beastie judging by models I've seen on display.  Couldn't recall the size of the fuselage cross-section but on reflection if the planned engine was a Jumo then it'd be a lot smaller diameter than a Nene's.

Nice one, came out very well.

Only thing that wonders me about this conversion (adressed at the manufacturer) is where the double seater is supposed to carry any decent amount of fuel, plus the additional weight of the second crew member and the radar equipment...? Had an eye on this one several times, but found it so unplausible that I'd rather scratch a lengthened fuselage.

It's a nice model but Dizzy has articulated my concerns a lot better.

IIRC, the USSR (or the CSSR?) had a MiG-15 night fighter, based on the tandem seat trainer, under development - and it eventually failed for the same reasons. It was not before the MiG-17PF (a single seater, though) before a decent, radar-euipped fighter would come forth.

A single seater with a radar nose is more believable.

Like I said, it's fictional.  Tank was never that stupid or shortsighted and all the Focke Wulf jet nightfighter projects were a decent size to allow for decent fuel tankage.

I really like this build. ......lovely finish on the cam scheme......could it have been a point defence n/ fighter.....? Based near High value targets/in the path of known bomber streams.....? Not as dangerous to the pilot/crew as an Me163.....
