When I joined the forum, I thought the famous PR19 was a Canberra, it took me quite a while to understand it was - just ;D - a Meteor.
May I offer to the forum, free of charge, an idea for an absolutely authentic Canberra PR19 ?
The Matchbox Canberra and the Italeri Lockheed TR-1 (in 1/48) combine perfectly:

Actually I think that's been done already, although maybe not with 1/48 TR-1 wings, by our own 'rickshaw' here a couple of years ago. But is it greater span than an RB-57F? Hmm, there's an idea, RB-57F wings on a PR9 fuselage in 39 (No. 1 PRU) Sqdn. markings, and I already have all the bits. :thumbsup:

I liked that idea too :thumbsup: I have a pair of RB-57F wings currently attached to an Italeri Canberra,
but no where near finished. I've been looking for an Airfix PR9 to put them on. maybe I should just get
the Revell/Matchbox PR9? I believe its shape is reasonably accurate? although there again this is
Whiff world.... does it really matter?

The M'box/Revell PR9 isn't too bad, it's just way out of date by now, but as you say the shape isn't bad at all.
Now I think about it, I think Rickshaw's long winged PR9 used the RB-57D wings, not quite as long as the F but pretty darned impressive.
IIRC the only real deficiency with the Matchbox/Revell Canberra kit is that the canopy is a little on the shallow side. Otherwise a thpical Matchbox product.

When XtraKit put out their PR.9 I got hold of one just so I could compare it with the Matchbox one. I found out (in a round about way) that the XtraKit model was based on drawings provided by John Adams (Mr Aeroclub) and I found a couple of things were different between the two kits. So I quizzed John Adams about it. He told me the Matchbox kit had a couple of errors, first the fuselage plug the real thing got is missing (IIRC there's supposed to be a 13" plug between the wing leading edge and the rear of the cockpit) and second the tail plane is too big. He explained that dimensions for the tail plane on the real drawings all originate from the aircraft's centerline, but Matchbox took this length of the chord as being on the side of the fuselage so the leading edge of the tail plane is too far forward. Otherwise he said it was pretty close as it has the proper nacelle shape and other things.
Apparently John Adams had done a lot of physical measuring of various existing Canberras.
