Wow, great idea!
That's looking REALLY promising!
And will you be making a Sabrestar with the bits left over? ;D
Looking forward to this!
Love it. Have/had this on the agenda, too, because it combines the best of two aircraft - looking forward to see progress and results!
What kits do you use? Hobby Boss F-86 and Airfix P-80, plus a fuselage plug?
Nice!! Love it!!
Thanks to all.
PR19_Kit: Good!; from now, its name will be "Sabrestar". It will be like the profile.
Dizzyfugu: Yes; F-86 of Hobby Boss (with special decals from a page of Korean aces war), and the P-80 of Airfix. We have to talk of your Rikugun Ki 124...It´s on my agenda too.... ;D; with your permission, of course....
Regards,
Fran

I agree with PR19_Kit, a straight wing Sabre with the leftovers
Which is pretty much a FJ-1 Fury.....
Oh this is gonna be so cool ! Thanks for reminding me of that profile...lovely ! Didn't somebody build a similar one here already ? Not in those markings but a similar idea ?
Quote from: Flyer on February 28, 2015, 02:43:08 PM
Yes but with better looking rounded wingtips and tail group. ;D
Agree, the Fury perhaps lacked a bit in the looks department.
Brilliant idea! Lovin' this.
Excellent idea - USAF equivalent of the Grumman Cougar effectively...
This is going to look good

Thanks for the kit clarification - was not certain about the P-80... built one maybe 25 years ago. ;)
Maybe a "later version" could be created with a F-86D - including the afterburner tail and a fatter radome?
Where does the plug come from? Taken from one of the donation kits, or a third party piece?
Concerning the Ki-124: juts go ahead, I'd be glad to se another one, and it seems to have serious "real world appeal". Anyway, creating this lil' bug was a hell of body work...

That looks like the chunk of the Sabre fuselage from just behind the cockpit. There's a longitudinal slot there that you can see in the first pic as well.
Yes, the piece-plug comes from the kit of the Sabre; to make the fuselage straight behind the cockpit.
Dizzyfugu: Yes, it´s very similar to the F 86D Sabredog; except for the position of the (only) air intake; below the radome. Really it has the same configuration than the North American YF93 (pic of views).

I'm not on my phone and can finally get a better look at the pics....nice to know how you did it ! Can't wait to see progress, and one of these is defo going on my 'to do' list !
Anything new here? Have been pondering with the radar-equipped alternative, and what about a F-94 with a F-86D tail section, or at least the swept wings all over...?
Ya I'm waiting too

;)
BTW, I think I will try to tackle this concept, too, with a F-94/F-86D bash, so that it will be slightly different. It's on the list, and I actually have the proper kits in store (Heller & Airfix, respectively)...
Ya better feed these guys something soon or something tragic may happen!
Harrrrrrrr....!
Sorry for the delay, but has been very hard to adjust the fuselages, especially for the different profiles and qualities.
Lost almost all lines of paneling.
Here is the step previous to polishing, before painting:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1224.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee362%2Ffranacon%2F002_zpsokhzjcvw.jpg&hash=96059477bc380b7ffc64c75d2093308f6f53ccf3)
Reminds me to Saab 32 Lansen (This is on my list too, but as a Me 1.110 modified).
Regards.
Funny, as it never occurred to me that it might look like the Lansen ! Not if you finish it as per the profile above !
Looking good, and thanks for the update !
That's looking great! NMF or ADC grey?

Many thanks. NMF, of course; like the operative F 86 in Korea.
Very cool  Keep up the good work

Looks a lot like a Lansen!

Makes me wonder where the Saab enginers got the idea from. All it would need is more of a radar nose. Love this build and can't wait to see the NMF.
Lovely! The Lansen is bigger and "fatter", though, despite the fuselage plug in the hybrid kit.
Really looking forward to the results!
Makes me think about what the Saberstar would look like using a T-33.

As i said before, it´s on my list. It will be "Saab......", with swedish scheme.
Here is the F 80 SW with a first painting:

Can´t wait to see it finished!
That's looking gorgeous
I see a Whiffie nomination in build there.
The build is seamless and the NMF looks great. I second the whiffy nomination.
Go Go GO!
Gorgeous for sure. Great job on this one.
That XF-90 sure looks sweet. Love that era of aviation. Time to stop painting kits different and get on this 'real' whif bandwagon !

That is beautiful, and looks so right. Can't wait to see it finished.
Finish! .

A Utahn's bird.
Great job. Loved watching this come together.
Beautiful!
That is so very awesome!
^ That comment is 100% accurate!

Now build a second one, but with an RF-84F Thunderflash recon nose.
Oh, that's just stunningly gorgeous!
Wow...it's just.. oh man...

Same here - both the design and the finish. The swept wings match the elegant nose lines of the P-80 very well!
Great work!
Stunning
she indeed looks stunning
looks alot like a USAF SAAB Lansen
Odd, I missed this one.
Previous comments are accurate; absolutely stunning!
My god, that is amazing! Top notch and choice skills! :o
That looks better than I ever imagined!
Dang, that's Purty...
You're giving me more ideas... :banghead:
Ding dang! That's fantastic!

You made it uncannily pretty. Never knew that swept wings would look so good on the F-80. The Sabre tail is of course a classic that would improve almost any jet plane. I really like this undistinguishable merge between the F-80 and the F-86. Very well done.
this is simply amazing!!
make me want to make one myself
Beautiful - and really convincing!
Very nicely done!
Given how much effort Lockheed put in to developing and upgrading the P-80 airframe, I'm surprised they didn't try something like this themselves!
