here's my progress so far on this kit..I've used a paint brush to position the wings closely to the fus...later on I'll use these Mike Grant instrument panel decals on the panel and cement it into place...I'm not sure whether to join the two upper fus halves together and then attach it to the fus or cement them onto the fus separately....if you've made this model before please tell me what you did
oh yes, there's a metal foot plate in the cockpit and I've left it in natural metal color, but I've seen it painted in other models...

Wasn't aware Fujimi did a 109 in 1/48, you live and learn. Always liked their kits and found the ones I've built nice to work with. They were/are always up to try new things. One of my 1/72 109's has the upper camouflage dark splinter on the transfer sheet. Not sure it was a good idea but, hey it's nice to see people try new things.
Hi Chris,
one of my all time favs is the Fujimi 109G/K with the huge decal sheet....this plane has the 23 on the fus...also just don't know how to neatly removed the seam line just behind the cockpit...
Don't forget 109's had a "seam line" Al, apparently the fuselage was formed from 2 halves joined together.
more shots....the instrument decals are in place and it was sorta like surgery to position them....then the first side of the upper fus with some plastic card to blank off the gun holes to allow me to slide them in after painting has completely finished...the other side off the upper fus is in place as are the back wheel doors, but snaps of them later..

Getting ready for Christmas Al ? Panel looks good
lol I think he is ! Is it me or is that weird the way the engine cowl joins ?
here're some more snaps, starting with someone else's model which shows the radio, I think it is, behind the cockpit....my kit doesn't have one of these so I'm building my own with plastic card...it covers a very unsightly seam....this is how it looks so far...notice the large gap just under the cockpit..I'll fill that with some white glue later on...the squares is a puzzle I saw on the net the other day...how many squares can be found?

Forty squares at least!
Captain, late versions of the Bf 109 had cowling that looked like that, odd I know but it was that way for simplicity of manufacture and cheaper too

more snaps showing the scratchbuilt thingy behind the cockpit...not sure what it is...and some meaningless strips of plastic in the wheel wells to cover the unsightly holes in the upper wing that are there to accommodate the things or other that are attached to the upper surfaces of the plane's wings....

I've been hard at work on this plane over the intervening weeks and have finished the paint job, which is another "variety-show" kind of colorful plane (though the black fus band is a little too wide), and have removed the tape....next is a touch-up here and there and either then apply the mottle with my pastels or the whiz bang German pencils I've picked up
or first attach the decals and then attend to the mottle...and then there is the pleasant task of selecting some colorful, but inaccurate, unit decal combo....
but this isn't really interesting to you, gentle reader, without the benefit of snaps, which will be along soonest

You learn somat new every day !
Looking good Allan. Scratching up bits is the best part of modelling eh ?
Yes, it is Capt...and here are some snaps.....I'm not sure what to do next and have some options for your consideration...the fus is rough in paint texture so I'm sure the pastels with adhere to it, as is, if I use them for the mottle, but then I will have to put on the decals after that which means lots of water on the fus which may wash away the pastel mottle if the varnish, gloss, I apply after the mottle doesn't firmly set them in place once they are on...or I can put gloss varnish all over the plane, attach the decals, then rough up the surface with some matt varnish and reach for the pastels...what would you do?

went with the pastels and then gloss coated it....the pastels with a cut down brush are dead easy and can be done in 10 minutes with no white-knuckle airbrush use needed...here're the snaps of the glossed plane all ready for decals...then some weathering, but not too much this time, and matt coat...as you can see I think I've made the black fus band a little too wide, but no matter

Nice job Allan ! Very complex but you're making it look easy !
Not sure about the mottles....maybe a test patch ?

Like that alot so far.
