In my ZSU thread I sort of mentioned that this might be worth a tilt.

Curiosity got the better of me, so rummaged around and found an old Modern Luchs turret and did a bit of surgury
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.modelblokez.org.au%2Fbthpix%2Fwhatif%2FAFV%2FBRDM%2FBRDM_AA_2.JPG&hash=c0aa24733a647a842fb4fbbefff2de6c22b45a3b)
Hmmm OK
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.modelblokez.org.au%2Fbthpix%2Fwhatif%2FAFV%2FBRDM%2FBRDM_AA_3.JPG&hash=98adfe4e34340112d5b9fd9c41510793d1d0ff4b)
But we need Ammo storage, lots and lots of storage, so added large boxes around the turret. Then asked myself how do you aim this thing. So retrieved the BRDM Gaskin compartment from the bin and worked that in. For better or worse.
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.modelblokez.org.au%2Fbthpix%2Fwhatif%2FAFV%2FBRDM%2FBRDM_AA_4.JPG&hash=23aa85b822418ba6694de1b80ce6c5b3db052334)
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.modelblokez.org.au%2Fbthpix%2Fwhatif%2FAFV%2FBRDM%2FBRDM_AA_5.JPG&hash=56aa659070b6ebd777f7cd94194f249e65bb71aa)

Then tried this.. .uhhh ohhh... this look ok as well, plus probably more practical. Don't have a spare BTR but who knows, sometime later there maybe a turret swap. ;D

Excellent stuff, BT!
Looks good.
The ZSUs on the Shilkas had water cooled barrels so you would need room for all the associated tanks, heat exchangers, and pumps in the turret as well.
That does look good
Would it need jacks to steady it when firing ?

You mean like this ;D Along with the necessary operator ingress/egress hatch as the BRDM-2 has notoriously difficult access.

lets ignore the fact that the turret can prevent the front hatches from opening as well. Out of scope mod to lengthen the vehicle.
Thats about it..
Robin, to the Paintshop !!!
Like Dizzy's Lena, it's a prototype & the turret is turned 45o for front crew access, an issue to be rectified on production models. ;)
She's looking good, BT!
Marvellous
Nice, that's looking really good.
BTW - some contextual inspiration...

There are not only aggressor aircraft in US use - there are also tanks, like these M551/Shilka lookalikes.
And then I found THIS, too...

The name "Flail" made me think about mine clearing.

Is that an M109 chassis?
Yes, and a turret, too.
It appears the have been extended at the rear and none of the pictures i've looked at have that hatch on the side of the hull.

That's for the driver, or he'd bang his head on all those gun-like things sticking out of the turret. ;D
I have a book with a load of those vehicles and aircraft in, Sheridan tanks were used for a few of the conversions. I will dig the book out tomorrow if I get chance.
Chris
I have found the book. Its circa 1980's but has the modified Sheridan and Huey helicopters in amongst other stuff including actual Soviet era armour. It's called NTC , a primer to modern land combat. Front cover has a modified Sheridan with a sagger anti tank missile mounted above the gun barrel.
Chris
Many of these conversion have also metal plates grafted onto the hulls to resemble a certain vehicle's silhouette - like the M109 above; the turret has been moved visually forwards, so that it resembles a Shilka. There were also Sheridans with cosmetic prothesis' on the hull (front and rear), so that they look more T-72ish; note the open front ends of the extensions, so that the driver has a better field of view:

Soviet Forces also played the disguise game - check this artful T-34/Leopard 1 travesty:

On the model side.. paint is proceeding, should have an update by the end of the weekend.
On the Vizmod stuff.. very interesting pix, love that "Leopard" though, that is inspired.
I have the Concord Publication - National Training Centre which is full of the Vizmod stuff and really interesting reading. The Sheridan is the basis for a lot of the Vizmod vehicles.

Note the early use of composite materials in the reinforced concrete radio aerial...
;)
Plus the red brick chimney engine exhaust.

That's looking great!
Vanilla? Soviet? It's all green to me! ;)
Great job, BT, looks the part!
