I'm looking at the colours used on the SAAFs Sabres and wondering what they are and how to match them: http://aircraftnut.blogspot.com/2012/
I know that Hataka do a set but I don't have an airbrush.
Light Admiralty Grey for the underside - easy.
Olive Drab is fairly obvious and I have that in the stash from my WW2 builds.
Deep Buff is the challenge. This is some shade of orange/yellow. Some sites say it's Humbrol 63 Sand with a drop of white. I'm wondering about mixing Tamiya Flat Earth with Flat Yellow.
What say you?
Don't Hataka do that set in their Blue range? That's the range for brush painters, like you and me. ;D
This scheme?

Looks close to Middle Stone to me. Vallejo 71031 is what I used on this Wampyre.

The SAAF used "unique" colors on the F-86s and also the Mirage IIIs and F.1s, it was a yellowish sand and olive drab. Humbrol 63 and 155 come surprisingly close. The undersides were IIRC "Light Admiralty Grey", Humbrol 166 (RAF Light Aircraft Grey) comes close.
RAF PRU Blue was pretty common, too, e .g. on the Canberras or Buccaneers (on the latter coupled with upper surfaces in Dark Sea Grey), but also on the F.1s with high waterlines for the sand/OB scheme.

They don't do it in their Blue range Kit, but their Red (airbrush) range goes on well with a brush you just need a couple more coats, or after you've put the paint onto your pallet you can walk away for a couple of minutes and it will "thicken" up enough to brush paint quite nicely. You do have to judge it right and I must admit I only found out by accident  I tend to just use a couple of extra coats.
Thanks for that Chris.
I assumed they did everything in both ranges, silly of me.............. :banghead:
I've posted a link to their Blue range here
