Title: Lockheed Asterism
Post by: 63cpe on November 30, 2024, 08:57:40 AM
Just started hacking a poor Constellation in pieces. Actually I chopped the fuselage in rings and reassembled the rings minus some ring back together to create a shorter version of the constellation for the short-medium distances. Now it's testing some wings to fit. First up are Fokker F. 27 friendship wings with Dart engines.

This looks... like something this site would produce.

The Flyiutchman?  Sounds like a Doctor Who alien.

Instead of a Constellation, it would be an Asterism.  (Humor for the astronomers out there.)

I like that, esp. the fuselage looks nice with the plugs taken out. I just find that the wings are somewhat too slender - but that's personal taste. Great concept.

Some more wings?

I, too, thought that the F.27 wings look a bit skinny (and long) next to the shorter fuselage.
I hope you can put the fuselage sections together, so that it has some of that graceful arch of the Connie.

Those long slender wings make me think of something made for long range and high altitude work. Almost glider like. Like a U-2 but with a bigger fuselage.
This is very interesting, keep us posted on this one.

Yeah, I selected some wings that might be a better fit. So let's do a beauty contest.....

Option 2 besides the F 27 Friendship wings: Heinkel He-177 wings.

Option 3 besides the F 27 Friendship wings: C-119 outer wings.

Option 4 besides the F 27 Friendship wings: Nord Noratlas outer wings sans tailbooms

Option 5 besides the F 27 Friendship wings: Grumman Hawkeye wings (the wing in front is at correct length, the picture straight from above shows the uncut hawkeye wing. If these are selected the wing will be cut and put on the fuselage so span will increase a little)

LOVE it!

But the Noratlas wings do it for me, somewhat predictably I expect.  ;D

Thank you for the compliment on renaming her!

A curvy airplane should have curvy wings, but in the end, as ever, she's your birdie to build.

Yep, found some He-111 wings. As always, your opinions are welcome!

The wings from the Boeing B-29 fit after a bit of bodging, I'd try the Avro Shackleton wings.

The He-111 wings look about the best, to my eye - though perhaps a bit short.
I'm not quite sure how you'd go about lengthening them whilst keeping the curves, though.

Yes, the He-111 are quite short. IMO the He-177 wings are better.

Hehhehheh, yup same here....

Anyway, most votes are for the He 177 wings...so He-177 wing it will be. Thank you all.
