NOTE:

If you walk in the side door as an exhibitor before the show starts, you need to go to the other end of the hall, where the general public come in, and register your car to get the free parking, otherwise you'll get a parking fine.

Ask me how I know...  :banghead:

I have a box of kits and books to sell and some things to share.

My plans are these:

Friday - Start work at 7am, leave at 11am and drive up to Bolton. Check in at Travelodge. Find a pub for the evening, maybe a curry.
Saturday - Train to Manchester and have a look around the shops or explore a museum or something. To be decided on the day. In the evening find a pub!
Sunday - Model show. Get on the road by 5pm and hope to be home for 10pm.

Drop Thorvic a PM and ask him for a recommendation for some decent pubs and curry houses.

Nice to see everybody, and a very enjoyable show.

ModelsForSale certainly had a lot of stuff going at very reasonable prices: I got a Trumpter 1/72nd F-106B for £18 and a Heller AS532 Cougar, still in it's shrink-wrap, for £8.

Seemed to see rather more women who were actually into the modelling, instead of just supporting their partners, there too. I wonder if some of the clubs have learned the lesson of that combined model and figure-painting show I've been to a couple of times and started to encourage figure painting, which always seems to attract far more women (the old-but-true "people rather than things" trope) than vehicle modelling does?

Good show, very full but possibly too full to get around properly, especially upstairs.  Too many people wearing hats indoors.

I had a good time at Bolton. Great to catch up with people in the New Year.

I sold a fair few kits to cover my petrol costs and the delicious curry I had on Friday night in Achari's. Their Morris Massala Mild was just right, not too hot with a decent flavour.

What did I bring home?

A book - Jigsaw Puzzles: Tactical Intelligence in the Falklands Campaign by Giles Orpen-Smellie We can only guess what his army nickname was!
He was made Battalion Intelligence Officer when it all kicked off and is now comparing what he thought was going on at the time with what the official history books now say.

Bags of scatter in dark earth and sandy brown for some diorama bases.

At the end of the day I picked up an Aurora MBT70 for just £5. This gives me a pair - one West German and one US Army.

I'm serious. I asked for a Chicken Jeera and the very nice waiter warned me the cumin seeds make it quite bitter to the taste. He suggested the Morris Masala and that it didn't have to be HOT but mild.
Mouthwatering, not eye-watering

I assume it was named for a regular customer ??

Achari Bolton menu -
Balti Morris Massala (hot)
A dish comprising of massala sauce with extra spices, green chillies & onions

Something I resisted the temptation of was an Italeri 1/72nd XB-70 Valkyrie on the ModelsForSale stand: about £40 IIRC.

Very wise.  It's a horror to build and even more of a nightmare to store.  Done it once.  Never again.  Mine now resides in Canada with my cousin.

Yep - all of that. I vaguely remembered the horror stories and reflected on how much of a pain it'd be to take to shows.

Yes, it was and full of praise for it he was too.  You should think of putting him on commission as a salesman.  Had I some spare cash monies, I'd certainly be shelling out for one.

That would be Stu Fon the editor. He attends most of the "big" shows either with the amw sales stand ir as part of ipms brampton.

There were a few traders conspicuous by their absence.  Glenn Ashley wasn't there and, thankfully neither was wockney canker Uncle Albert from Kit Crazy.  I hate that man with a passion you can barely dream of.

It's not just his noise, it's more his crass stupidity.  At the last show at the old Huddersfield venue (not the newer one that they got kicked out of for not being "inclusive" enough"), he spread his stuff around, as he does, creating trip hazards and blocking a fire exit.  On the same day that there was a fire evacuation.  Thankfully, it was a false alarm.

That could have had the show closed down and frankly, he should have been blacklisted for that.

Nope it was in a nice small compact box, it needed a proper parts box to unpack and remove print braces, but i did do that the week i got back from smw, and the test fit was superb so it was an enjoyable build in after telford and finished off during the Christmas period and into early Jan.
