Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Quote from: Wardukw-NZ on April 20, 2023, 12:20:25 AMhis glasses look like normal ones and their not that thick ..why can't yours get sorted like that?

I can get NHS prescription lens, but they would be even thicker than my current ones. Therefore so as I don't quite look so much like a cartoon caricature (the classroom swot or similar  ;) )  I opt for the more expensive, but slightly thinner ones. My lens graduate from approx' 8/9mm thickness on the "outside" to 4/5mm on the "inside".

Thanks for the info/encouragement re cataracts lads, I shall talk to the optician when at my appointment.

Ah, but it's not  ;)  It's sitting in a milk bottle top with the front undercarriage unit attached to its little sticky pad awaiting painting.

Lies, dammed lies and dodgy photographs  ;)  ;D

Highly unlikely this will get finished for the GB  :-\ , but I'll leave it here for the time being. It will get finished sometime in the next month or so though.

Well I got back to this during the week and she is now sitting there basically assembled and fully primed. So all being well I'll start on the paintwork tomorrow

Now as I've said before this is a superb kit and Airfix have climbed to the top of the pile with its production and it will be interesting to see if they can improve on it ? However, there's always a however  ;D , you could argue that it's over engineered in places and any slight miss-alignment of parts will have knock on effects later in the build, ask me how I know.   It's also a case that the fit is so precise that any paint on mating services will effect it, so clean it off before attempting to.

One area that has attracted the attention of all review model builders that I've read is the assembly of the wheels/undercarriage legs/mudguards. Now I can just about understand why Airfix have done what they've done, but it is an extremely time consuming process just to assemble 3 sets of wheels/legs.  I also think they've got shares in Swan Morton, given the amount of new blades you need in order to clean the parts up  ;) However I got there in the end, but it is an area which really does show off the close fit of the parts and what happens if you don't clean them up properly.

If Airfix are going to continue producing kits like this with such close tolerances I think I'll invest in a really good pair, ie. expensive, pair of sprue cutters in order to remove parts from the sprue.
