It's not widely known that the original partnership for designing and building the Tornado had 6 partners.  Britain, Germany and Italy are well known, but Canada, Holland and Belgium were also original partners. Canada and Belgium withdrew on costs grounds, and the Netherlands decided it needed a pure dogfighting fighter, so eventually went with the F-16.

But, what if they'd stuck in there?

I think they would have waited for the F.3, maybe a bit simpler than the UK's version.  To offset the cost they gave it a dual role, of maritime patrol/anti-shipping, so was often seen carrying one or two Kormoran missiles.

Awesome work mate 😀 😀
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

The livery works well, even though I am not certain about the mixed ordnance/role?

My reasoning was, it is no dogfighter, more of a patrol aircraft, so having the ability to do a CAP and anti-shipping patrol simultaneously saves time and money.  Phantoms used to carry Sparrows, reconnaissance pod and bombs all at the same time, so...why not? ;D

McColm

That's what the Tornado GR.1B should of had. The longer fuselage of the F.3.

They might think they're the whole country up there, but a lot of us who don't live there, beg to differ ...

The model is cool, though :) K-3029, wasn't that an NF-5?
... I know all this and more ...

Well, some of these "Engels" don't know where the Netherlands are, lol

Yes, it was. I just used an old set of decals I had lying around.  TBH, I don't know much about the Nederlands' Luchtmacht.  I should do really, being half Dutch ....

Cool idea, and, admittedly, one I've entertained myself. That said, I think I would likely have prioritised the ADV's interceptor role, giving it the air-to-air grey/grey over grey scheme. But - that's me! And the beauty of whiffing is that there's nothing that can be wrong!  ;)
Re the aircraft code - yes, it's an NF-5 number, and so what? Maybe the RNLAF never bought Skoshis, sticking to Tornados instead?

Anyway - I'm enjoying this build a lot!

If I ever build my Canadian version of the Super F3 I'll be using CF-18 decals and numbers.
This looks great and is a great "what could have been"!

The reason I went for camo was to make it look immediately different to the British F.3.  I know the F-5s had changed over to grey by then, but I wanted a contrast to the RAF ones

PR19_Kit

I can just see a 4 ship of them climbing out from Valkenburg.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Gondor

I think I may pinch the idea as the markings look cool on that model.

I soon learnt that once we merged with Hoogovens  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Well IRL F.3's were modified for Wild Weasel role and carried ALARM while still retaining their air-to-air capability, so why not? ;)
