Yep. Still around.  We're still traveling a lot in our RV, but this week we are at home base.  So I'm going to join the group build.  Of course, we are leaving town next Sunday morning, so I have already cut myself one day short.  I'm going to build a Hasegawa Mig 27 1/72 scale.  I'm still thinking about colors, camo, markings, and back story.

Good to see you back, Ed. That's a nice kit for its age.

Perfect timing!  Good to see you back Ed!!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Great to see you Ed
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Ed is back.

I've built the MiG 23 version of that kit.  Can't remember anything which will stop you finishing it in a week.  It has the usual need for PSR around the intakes.

I built both versions back in the 70-80's.  Some of Hasegawa's better work at the time.  Should be good 1 week subject.

Today's progress.  The fuselage top and bottom are glued up and the new wings installed.  Putty applied to fair the new wings into the existing fuselage.

Also got the cockpit interior primed and painted in the odd blue-green Russian cockpit color. You cannot view this attachment.

Ooooh, none of those silly swinging wings then?  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Day 2

ARGGGGGHH!!!!  Just figured out today that I am missing an entire sprue of parts.  Some of which I need.  Yes, I could scratchbuild replacements or scrounge around the internet and find a cheap kit.  But not in the short time frame.

So Plan B.  I have an old AHM F-104 Starfighter 1/72 ( or there abouts).  Not a great kit, but it does look like an F-104 and did I say OLD.  I think I might have built this kit back in the 60's as a kid.

PS  Yes, good call.  The Mig is being built with a fixed wing not a swing wing.  I was intending for a strike plane similar in configuration and mission to the Jaguar.  I hope to get back to it in the future.

Mirage F.1 or F-16 wings might work well on the MiG-23/27 airframe?

Day 3     Model #2

Got the basic assembly  done today.  Which for this kit is really simple.  Just glue the fuselage top & bottom together.  Cut off the original wings.  Add new larger intakes for the larger engine.  Fill in around the new intakes to blend to the fuselage.  Using mostly small pieces of sheet styrene and CA glue.  Grind that to rough shape with Dremel.  Add new wings and fair into the fuselage.

The result

Spread on a thin coat of 3M acrylic filler.  (blue)  This will fill in all the small imperfections and make a nice smooth finished surface.  A quick sand tomorrow after it cures overnight and get a primer coat tomorrow.
