As already mentioned elsewhete, the F4U with a Centaurus engine is a worthwhile topic and entry for this GB, so it has been earmarked to materialize because I had been planning to build one for some time and had already set aside the assets.
Basis will be a Matchbox F4U-4 as a late-WWII basis, which will most probably undergo some additional tweaks. The engine will come from a resin set (incl. 4-blad props) for a Bristol Brigand upgrade set from OzMods, which should be a suitable ingredient.
Operator will be the RN, of course.

If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Well, it's actually not so much more power, the "modern" F4Us already had a lot under the hood. But this one will be a (fictional) stillborn "special version" for the FAA with many changes to the original design, so that it came too late for use during WWII.  ;)

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It has been silent here and nothing has happened yet, but I decided to switch to an Italeri F4U-4 as basis for this one, I was able to procure a relatively cheap kit in the meantime.

No pics yet, but good progress. Wings in place, tail surfaces changed/replaced. The fin now has a square shape (was replaced with a stabilizer from a Novo Attacker, looks very good!) and the stabilizers have a trapezoidal outline (donors from a Matchbox Meteor), both match the clipped wing tips well. The engine has also been replaced, and this caused some headaches because the Centaurus has a slightly smaller diameter. Some trimming on the air outlets on the upper furselage went well, but the area under the cowling looked strange - I eventually added a shallow air scoop (actually a piece from an Italeri F4U-7) that bridges the "step" well, even though this called for some PSR, just like the whole kit, esp. the new tail surfaces. High ambient temperatures and humidity caused some pauses, though.

This is sounding like it's going to be a very attractive plane Thomas   ;D

If the resin Centaurus poweregg is smaller in diameter than the front end of the Corsair then it's underscale or the Corsair is overscale.

The R-2800 is smaller in diameter than the Centaurus and the cowling of the Corsair is the tighest of any R-2800 installation.

Mine from 15 years ago.  Hobbyboss with a resin Brigand Centaurus and a five blade prop.

Nice, mine will look very similar, probably the same unit (802 NAS at Eglington in the late Forties, like the flyworthy Sea Fury that's available as the 1:72 Airfix kit).

In the meantime, progress was slowed down with final bits and pieces like antennae and landing gear covers. The windscreen has to be mounted, then painting can start. Landing gear wells have already been pre-painted - after much consideration I painted them in a Zinc Chromate primer pale yellow, while the cockpit became, reflecting the British operator, very dark grey.
