Quote from: Steel Penguin on May 29, 2023, 04:59:39 AMdoes any one know a dealer / modelshop with a decent range of the PLATZ  range?,  im after one or more of very specific F-15J models they do.   the white dragon, and the mountain art versions.  Google has been less than helpful, the link it gives via Britmodeler goes to a shop that dosn`t seen to have any on their site.

i know that 2bobs did the white dragon as a decal pack but despite trying to find it for i wile ive turned up empty.

Do you need the kits or will the transfers alone do?

There is a 1/72 Print Scale decal set.  72-466.

Plenty on UK Evil-Bay.

in addition to looking to spend, im carrying on with the Challenger 2,  this is the Trumpeter boxing with the dozer blade, and wile i said it before regarding the Airfix reboxing i built, ill say it again,  its not the best by a longgg way, a great many of the parts have ejection marks on them, so im having to cut off the sprue, clean up the mould lines and gates, fill then clean again, then assemble,  not my fave way of doing a kit.   so progress is remarkably sloooow.

its tempting me to start other stuff,  as ive got a few blister packs of not 80s British infantry out of the pile so i can clean them up and paint, so i dont burn out on DPM, SLRs and Pattern58 webbing  :banghead:

slow progress on the hull  im now on the back plate and the stuff thats hung from it,  so one of the fuel drums is pre assembled from the original after i lost it, the other is being pt together, and has had a spacer bar replaced with a bit of dental wire, after i picked it up and promptly snapped it  :banghead:
im glad ive done one of these before so i know not to stick the drums on till after painting,  as the obscure too much to get paint into.

i popped open one of my old games workshop paints and just stopped myself from swearing.   it had pretty much dried right out  :banghead:     and then i realised it was one of my old old ones ( probably purchased circa 1990)  ive put some water and tamiya thinners in it to see if it will recover,  and im going to have to go through all the GW paints ive got on my desk this weekend and do simeler if needed.....
And if they are unrecoverable im going to have to get an order in for a large number of Cote du arms paints to replace them.   Drat.   but for the time ive had them, and the use ive got from them there arnt any that realey owe me anything. :-\  :o

Had exactly the same thing happen a few weeks ago mate. I tried using water and Tamiya thinner, but no use. They'd appeared to separate into pigment and base, but the pigment was almost a translucent form of the colour. It was quite weird and beyond my "O" Level Chemistry.

paint chemistry is its own "dark art"  and if people who are in the business, who ive talked to are to be believed, it is as much art as science,
The closest i came to an understanding was a module on paints and surface finishings during my uni days, and most of that was distinctly occult      :banghead:

Oh definitely.  Hardware store I worked at my senior year of high school mixed paint manually, no fancy computer matching there.  They'd even write the formula on the lid for the next time the customer needed that color

Sounds like a lot of the older employees who worked with the Blast Furnaces and BOS Plant in my British Steel days. Especially the BF's, they'd tell you that they knew 95% of what was happening, but the remaining 5%

ive been mixerating   for a few hours  and gotten through all the paints on my desk
ill need to replace 10 pots, as they were beyond rescue, the rest seem good enough to carry on. whew  ;)   will have to get the paint catalogues out and work out the old  / newer GW names then convert them to coat Du Arms, or perhaps tamyia  codes and sort that,  but it was fare less painless than i thought it was going to be, and as some of the paints were 20-30 years old none of them owe me anything.

And it meant i had a tidy up on my desk     so its a good thing in the end.

Well done mate. It's a thing that seems to effect certain colours more than others. I've got some Humbrol Authentics which are still useable after a good stirring, whilst some newer acrylics seem to "go off" after a few years  :-\

When trying to match brands I still use an old Humbrol chart and some cards Aeroplane magazine gave away a decade or so ago. No use for the more recent brands, but ok for mine other than Hataka.

61 figures  4 models and 7 bits of scenery
undercoated a bunch of elvan ships for the " uncharted seas" game,  4 of the small catamarans 2 of the boarding rams to go with them,  1 of the flagships from the starter box and a battleship,  itll keep me out of mischief for a wile

THAT sounds like good news anyway!

How come they managed to find it?
