I remember that  Can you imagine the furore if you came out with something similar now ?

Didn't they do a "firing" Thompson SMG as well ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

My collection of real WW2 guns...but rifles hace early '44 serials so I like to think they may have seen some D-Day action.

Wasn't the Airfix FN deliberately under scale, to appeal to kids I guess?

LOVE that No.4, I've put many rounds through one of those, at Churn and Bisley Ranges, in my time.

Yeah it was very much just a toy.  Unfortunately the detachable box magazine rarely seemed to survive more than a few days. Three of us on my street had one and within a week we were all running around attacking the enemy sans magazine.

And yes, they made a Thompson too.  One of my cousins had that one.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

And it even came with a sling, amazing!  :o

Don't recall ever seeing them in Aus because, if I had, I'd have desperately wanted one (& I'm fairly sure my father would have bought it for me).

Although, given that I'm probably a few years, if not decades, older than Nick, I may have been playing with the real things when these came onto the market. ;)

It originally came out in the late 50's, early 60's because I had one and I'm older than most of you.  ;D (Note I say most Kit  ;) )

OK, I'll let you off.  ;D  ;)

Wasn't the 'bayonet' floppy too? For obvious reasons..............

It was slightly softer, but you still knew if you got prodded with it, as any POW's did when we marched them along to our holding area, which was the "Wash house square". Said square also served as our "fort" because of the way it was constructed

I feel like it could definitely poke an eye out.

It probably could have done a bit more damage than that to a small child, but those were the days when we used to throw half eaten apples and pears around at each other during the autumn as well as use conkers as catapult missiles. Not saying they were better times, but certainly different.
