The F-106X often gets mentioned as a 50's Mach 5 project but this one dates from '71 and is powered by a Pratt & Whitney F401.  I believe Convair used the designation several times, so the pictures get mixed up with the older project.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Partial parts shot. The kit is the old 1/72 Hasegawa F-106A.  I'll be using Tornado intakes as they fit the plans well, the hardest part of the build will be extending them and adding fillets. I'll  probably use the Tornado horizontal tails for the canards, with some re-shaping.
A Reskit F-16 exhaust will stand in for the F400 as the F100 nozzle was very similar and there's hardly anything in the size difference at this scale.
The plans just show the gun pod with external tanks, missile armament is unknown. I'll be using a scheme from the proposed Long Range Interceptor variant with two Sparrows on the wing pylons and two semi conformal next to the weapons bay, with fuel inside it.  That'll mean closing it up which is a bit tricky as the Hasegawa kit is only designed to be open.

I'll probably do it in one of these schemes.  It's kind of handy as they're all F-106 units so will work well for an upgrade.  Tail markings will need adapting to the Delta Dart which may be tricky, but there's several quite striking options.

Doing a BOG scheme goes against the grain a bit so this proposed USN adversary scheme might be an option if the grey is not talking to me:

The details come from Secret Projects forum, along with Convair Advanced Designs II and American Secret Projects Fighter & Interceptors.  The project on the front of the Convair title is the VTOL Model 200, which shared the basic configuration with the larger F-106 based project.

I love the look of that.

Erm, what's a 'BOG' scheme?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time now. Looking forward to awesome inspiration.

Sometimes the used grey looks good , but it is just boring ....

At the Air Defender were 100s of different Jets, and ALL the same poo poo  :banghead:
It's a Land Rover, NOT a Jeep . Like a Jeep, but for gentlemen.

Not quite. I find the Luftwaffe Norm 81 being a very neat exception.  ;D
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

Oh. And I MUST follow this thread. I've been looking at the canard "Six" for agents but not quite dared to take the plunge.

Looking forward to this Mossie
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Mossie

Thanks everyone!

Made a start.  Reamed out the supporting brackets to accept the new tailpipe by wrapping wet n dry around the resin part and sanding each side until it fit.  Then I cut a bit off the end to accept the new fairing (which is going to more blending than I thought).

Tailpipe part in place.  It'll need a fair bit more work before it's ready.
