I have been trying to follow the Airfix instructions to build the RNLI Severn Class Lifeboat, an experienced Whifferter has said that if I add parts not in the sequence I will run into problems.
There's a detailed interior which cannot be seen through the windows although I did leave the internal skeleton in place as it holds the roof up and stiffened the bodyshell .
Gaps started to appear right from the start, so I glued the stand to provide some stability, my intention was to build a hydrofoil which could still work.
I know take your time with this build rings in my ears but I really wanted to see the basic shape, I think that I may have rushed it a bit. The putty/filler to the rescue.
RAF launch or RN coastal gun boat are other options. It might even have been retired from service and bought privately -pleasure craft.

I've started adding the handrails , this hasn't been easy as the Floor Monster is almost the same shade of grey so I don't know where it's landed after pinging across the room. A few of the parts have made a dash for freedom but I think that I have most of the major components.

The acrylic Gun metal paint makes this build look more naval and means that I don't need to paint the railings. I might fit a chair on the flying deck. More fiddly parts need to be added.

This kit is always a bit weird with the fit, different kits and different reviews seem to be, well, different.  It applies to other kits from the Humbrol - Hornby transition period too, I had issues with the Sea Harrier where many hadn't.

Issues aside, it's a great subject and good to see one whiffed.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet), the Swedish Sea Rescue Society ( Sjöräddningssällskapet),  or even the US Coastguard might make rather subtle whiffs of the Severn class.  The Canadian Coast Guard have already  commissioned a version modified for extreme conditions found off the coast of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.

RNLI SUPPORTER MODE ENGAGED

Should you choose to model and display any or all of these models, an RNLI collecting box beside them would be much appreciated

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."
It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

Thanks for your response, I'll be buying another kit at a later date.

I must admit I often pull mine out and put it back partly because of potential issues and partly because it's a fairly complex build.

I would have thought that someone would have brought out a  range of aftermarket products

It's a pity the Severn seems to be the only life boat of the modern era that's been modelled.

There are loads of different types to chose from, but everyone, even the RNLI themselves, only seem to sell the Severn. :(
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

I'd like to see the Severn's predecessor, the Arun class.  Used to see them regularly at Spurn as a youngster.

I've fitted a chair on the flying deck and a pair of spotlights, the aerials are painted.
