Haplessly googling for Nimrod inspiration, i stumbled on >>THIS<<. Might very well have been featured here earlier, but as I found it good enough to deserve another view, I'm adding it here again.

On the subject - is anyone aware of a MRA4 conversion for the Airfix kit?

That looks a very good model, a pity the pics were ruined by the arrogant Photobucket intrusions.  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Pretty close to being possible too, in a way. The MRA4 had a MIL STD databus (the one that came after 1553 but I can't remember the number) which would have made it very easy to tool up with alternative weapon loads. There was speculation about Storm Shadows on the wing pylons, ALARMs on the sides of the wing pylons (Tornado Sidewinder-style) and JDAMs or Paveways in the bomb bay.

Now I know I say this everytime the subject comes up, but I use Photobucket and have no issue with them. Horses for courses I suppose.

I realise that mate and can understand the frustration/annoyance.  I stuck with them through the various management/ownership changes and as said am comfortable with the deal I currently get, but as said, horse etc.

I remember not too long before the MRA.4 was cancelled there was an article on it in Air Forces Monthly.  Definitely mentioned the plan to fit Storm Shadow and JDAMs.  A quick Google search brings up this publicity image of an MRA.4 fitted with 4 Storm Shadow

It took a long time that someone made something flyable from one of my creations, in this case a G.91 R/4 skin from may G.91 YS build (which was areal proposal for Switzerland). Even the tactical code was copied, and, as usual, without source reference:

There isn't a MR4A conversion set for the Airfix kit, there wouldn't be much of the Airfix kit left as a new wing, tail and nose would be added.

Are the wings entirely new (from a shaper perspective)? I was under the impression that the main changes were related to the new and bigger engines?
Same for nose and tail - I thought the main changes there were "lump-and bump"-thingies?

IIRC the new wings were one of the main reasons it was binned.  With the originals being "hand crafted" individually the new CAD designed wings all built to the same tolerances had problems fitting.  Basically each airframe needed a custom made set of wings.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....
