It had already had several successful dives on the Titanic, although not without issues according to the post-failure reports. So, to make it a whif, you'd have to carefully model the passengers & crew who died.

Either way, I'm fairly sure SH are going to, at least, make their money back on this kit.

Given speed of the implosion, all you'd have would be a bloody pulp.

Quote from: NARSES2 on August 14, 2023, 05:59:07 AMI suppose given the time these things take to create SH had done all the work and had the kits ready in the expectation the whole tourism venture would be a success and they'd benefit from the publicity ?

That's my rationalisation chip kicking in

I'd love to see the reaction of the IPMS (UK) Committee if someone did that and took it to Telford. Could become a very interesting conversation on "Freedom of Speech"

It's a 3-D printed kit, it took very little time to produce.

I think it quite apt.

To be fair, they're following in the footsteps of Titan's owner - cashing in on a tragedy. At least they're not desecrating a gravesite in the process.

Have to admit, I couldn't resist a little smile when I saw that model submarine. I don't think it's poor taste at all . Certainly no more "poor taste"  than the cashing in on deaths of people such as royalty etc.  You almost get killed in the rush as one manufacturer after another tries to outdo each other in flooding the market with tawdry, trashy mementoes and memorabilia. I'd suggest therefore that S H is simply doing what a lot of others have done and, is using the publicity to promote sales. After all, has it NOT been for its loss, how many would have bought the kit, far less heard of the submarine?

No doubt the bleeding hearts and hand wringers will have their tuppence worth as they did when, a few years ago, they tried to stop Airfix producing the 1/48 Hunter after the accident at Shoreham. I believe even the Daily Vile got involved (cashing in on the accident by selling newspapers  condemning a kit manufacturer?) The same cries of "disrespectful"  etc were heard then. Fortunately, they were ignored.

Horses for courses.

Thinking about it a little, if I let my imagination loose, I could get really macabre with this kit!

Exactly!

If one looks at it this way, they are allowing anyone to make a model as a respectful tribute to the sub itself, just like with a model of the Titanic, right? What's wrong with that?
And i also see nothing wrong with one making a dio of the implosion itself, TBH. So many of us, if not most, make historic or fictional models of people/characters and machines/devices known for or that were/are created to cause death and destruction so i don't see why this model should be different just because it's recent.

I know exactly what you mean and of course you are absolutely right. I suppose it's just a matter of timing and all of us have our own idea on when something becomes historical rather than current.

On top of that I suppose if they'd waited a bit then a lot of people would have forgotten about it and it wouldn't sell half as well.

Ah cheers Jon, I didn't realise that. I still can't quite get my brain around the immediacy of 3D printing. Stuck in the bad old days of masters and moulds I suppose ?

You could do one trapped in the tentacles of the Kraken...

...suggest that's what really happened to get the conspiracy loons frothing at the mouth

I saw the sub a couple of times on a trailer down at the waterfront here in Everett driving by on West Marine View Drive. The first time I didn't realize what it was, I had forgotten about the company, and my first thought was "that's an odd shaped propane tank".
;D

I later remembered what it was.

Wouldn't a better idea be a model of a conspiracy loon trapped in the tentacles of a Kraken? ;)  ;D
