Heyfords were still flying on glider towing duties during early WW2 - this one was seen at RAF Jurby in July 1940 and was finished in Dark Earth/Dark Green uppers with Yellow undersides (note the high demarkation line on the fuselage - just like Robomog's Coastal Command whif).  There's Heyford-related discussions at https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234981056-hp-heyford-in-wwii/ and https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/61982-handley-page-heyford-camouflage/

This final shot appears to show the heyford towing a Hotspur glider so this one may be K5184.

It's given me an idea for a desert Heyford  sand/dark earth over azure blue, probably stretching whifworld rules a bit but it would be a looker !

Has anyone noticed the sag on the tow line in the last pic it seems to be dragging down the Heyford

That's actually the 'High Tow' position for the Hotspur. They could either fly above the tug aircraft or below it, but not in line with it, but I can't remember why. Maybe so the tug crew could always keep the two in view?

In both positions the tow line was often in a curve, especially during a turn, and it looks as if the tug was turning to port in the pic.

All this Heyford stuff reminds me that I've had a monoplane Heyford 'in build' for ages now.

Naturally it needed longer wings to maintain the original wing area...... 

I also think that this became a late standard, because I found several pictures of different Heyfords with such a hood.

I once had plans for one of those using a pre-loved built Heyford but it lay dormant on the 'to do' for so long I passed the unwhiffed model on to someone else.  Often wish I'd not.  As yet unbuilt Heyford in the stash will be real world when/if built.

I also have a Matchbox Heyford in The Stash™. Today I wonder why I ever bought it...?

I started a monoplane.  I extended the wings and then it stalled when it came to making a decision about the engine(s?).
But when I bought my Heyfords I got what turned out to be nearly five kits in three boxes so while building the Henfield, and putting parts aside for the monoplane, and pinching a few bits here and there, I have made sure I kept separate enough parts to build one stock Heyford...

...which could of course become the basis of another whiff.

Keep it stock and just enclosed the cockpit.  Mostly think it's a whiff.

You may have thought of

• an airliner version
• a floatplane derivative with the other wing now supported by struts above the main wing and floats attaching to the fuselage
• a mostly stock aircraft but purchased by an exotic overseas customer in the throes of Douhetism
• a radar testbed (whether AI or ASV, with all those struts a few antennae don't much increase the drag any more)
• an aircraft used to support SOE/SIS agents and resistance movements
• a lifeboat-dropping search and rescue aircraft
• a "British Mistel" conceived after the fall of France to attack the imminent German beachheads, with a suitably obsolete interwar upper component
