absolutely

I have been in contact with Tope, both of us living in France, and I know his postal address ;
his mailbox was apparently overloaded and blocked, so I tried a snail/paper mail, and got an e-mail answer from his wife.

Tophe passed away on aug. 5, due to cancer.

He had mentioned it over the past few years, but discretely enough for us not to be too afraid.
He was probably over-sensitive for some questions and topics, and at the same time of a deep kindness and desire to please others.

To me, he was an extra-ordinary person, in more than one sense.
In our whiff world, his imagination was extraordinary, in that he was exploratory to the extreme,
knowing no bound, and for every new idea or observed shape, trying out every possible combination,
in a quite scientific way actually, including all those that we would not have dared to think of, even less to show around.
His flow of ideas was so fast that he had no time for elaborate or clean implementation,
but the richness and density of unexpected and incredible and never-seen-before was a form of poetry and magic.

He was a source of inspiration, as I made several builds out of his ideas,
and also because he was setting the whole notion of whiffing so totally free.

I feel very sad, to tears, I am missing him sourly already, I needed his craziness around to feed my own.

Rest In Peace Tophe

I was aware of his condition from his posts here. I'm deeply sad to hear he has passed away. I will surely miss his wild imagination. I wish I had finished the fire spotter as he inspired me to build it. I would have liked for him to see it finished. My deepest condolences to his wife and family.

In the future perhaps a memorial build. When the time is right.

Those words perfectly describe  our mate Tophe...a twisted madness and a single direction which was always a pleasure to behold..his imagination knew no limits .

I am gonna miss our mad French Professor of extreme aeronautical wiffery.

Rest in Peace matey 🙏
We're gonna miss you.

Three  thoughts on our colleague's  sad demise  .

One;  is it possible to convey to his wife and family our sympathy, and our heartfelt appreciation of his  wonderful and asymmetrically unique outlook on whiffery?

Two;  would it be appropriate to have  a Tophe  award for the best asymmetrical  offering ..............a rather special kind of Whiffy award:-  "The Tophy"?

Three;  Tophe will still be with us in spirit as long as  there are  any asymmetrical  whiffs  being produced.

Requiescat in pace,  Tophe.

My condolences to his wife and family.
Whatever the circumstances, his creativity and convictions have always remained intact and he has always been a great support for all of us.

Rest in Peace, Christophe.
Farewell, my friend.

Thank you Eric.  :-\

He had mentioned last year on FB that it had come back again, he'd been treated several times previously
but it just wouldn't let him be.

I'll miss Tophe more than I can explain, his imagination knew NO bounds and he wasn't afraid to publish them so we could all see his ideas.

Farewell ,y talented friend, I wish you well, and my thoughts are with your family as well.

Mr. Rheged has had a very good idea in suggesting we have an annual trophy (a Tophy.....) for models of Tophe's genre, and I'd fully support that.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

A trophy for a twin boom or more idea ...or a trophy for The build it as mad as you can build ,,,god knows our mate built some amazingly strange models and TBH i no my brain wouldnt go where Tophes did ,\.
That would be a challenge for alot of us i think .
