Quote from: Wardukw on September 01, 2023, 08:28:56 PM...Fred ..I know  :-\ ..it sucks and I'm not going to hide it...it should be a turbo Cat 6 but I'm seriously lacking in the 35th scale engines department...it's the original Unimog 4cyl so I'm gonna hide it to better " protect " it  ;) ...

If we can't see it, it can be whatever you tell us it is.
I like the way ya think mate 😉 😏
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Cool. Has a nice post-apokalyptic touch to me?

Wardukw

Well it is Diz but not in the way you'd expect  ;)

That Unimog engine was more powerful that it looked.

We had one at BR and used it to pull our TRAIN!

To be fair Kit, one man can pull a train... ;)

Fred

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Scoot mate oh you bet...ive been in things like this and there's cables all over the place..this layout will make sense when I invent the back story  ;D

As have I.  I had the pleasure(?) of both my Army Guard company's Humvees not once, but twice when the 42d deployed to Iraq.  The advantage there, I didn't have to install either the Blue Force Tracker or MCS systems when we got to Kuwait.  And I did the installs on my squadron's interim NGB-purchased replacement for the GRC-206 (5 units) and the Air Force's replacement (the other 15) in our 1165s.  Most of the time I spent channeling my late father, who as a mechanic working out of garage when I was growing up, made summer vacations and weekends...educational

You had jerk-206 pallets? I remember those from my TACP days. First we had to pull out the old (I mean ooold!) radios out of our jeeps and install the jerk -206s then pull them out of the jeeps and put them in the new HUMMVs. Government efficiency at its best. No such thing as trackers back then.

We had two installed 206s, a v5 (with a bad audio control module) in a 1097, and a v6 in my S-250 shelter; as we were a new ASOS (2207 ASOS, IOC in 2011), some of our equipment were hand-me downs from legacy units, but with the exception of our 1097, all of our Humvees were factory new, with no comms.  BFT came around in the early Oughts; the 42d was the first Guard division to receive them when we deployed; the only TACP units getting them in the Guard are (or were, that may have changed in the last 10 years) attached to Stryker BDEs.  The other system was a COTS over the horizon command and control/GPS-controlled moving map system built on a severely locked up, and minimal load of NT4.0.

Kit Scooter was a what we called a tact man ..Tactical Air Control Party (TACP).
His job was to call in air strikes when we'd get to deep into the poop.
These dudes are "The Man" when they get it right ..luckily we never had a problem with em getting it wrong ..that's bad when that happens.
A 2000lb bomb in the wrong place can really ruin your day.

As for radios we had our radio man ..he had his gizmos and what did he use ?..no idea..as long as it worked but it had satellite hook up and over the horizon ability.
On a few occasions all we had to use for comms was a bloody sat phone and that was that...jobs where walking around with a military comms set was not a smart idea  ;D

Actually, my job was to fix the radios that the TACPs inevitably broke when out in the field.  And yell at them for doing incredibly the stupid things that got $30k radios broken.

As well as yelling at our generator maintenance guy when did incredibly stupid things with the $125k Humvees that were also my responsibility, and then talk to and smooth things out with Motor Pool or the Range folks at Warren Grove.

I was on of the first ETAC, enlisted tactical air controller, back in '83 - '91. It took a long time to convince the generals in the army and USAF that enlisted people could do the job.
Yeah radio maintenance folks had quite a challenge at times. Like the story of the TAC who was totally frustrated with an Army FM radio until he slammed it against a tree. Then it worked!

If it was a PRC-77, that sounds about right.

It was the vehicular mounted one, not the portable. Although the PRC-77 did make a good wheel chock when parked on a hillside for the night.
