Exactly.............. 

All sorts of other aeroplanes were used as engine test beds, during WWII and afterwards, but that never seemed to happen to a Spitfire, they always had Merlins or Griffons. I thought I'd change history a bit.

Got a 1/48 Spit fin?

Just take a piece of aluminum and fold it in half and you're done!

Having worked out how long the prop-spinner assembly will be, in order to line up properly, I think this Spit will need a LOT of ballast in the tail to keep its CG in the proper place!

It's not looking too bad though.

How difficult would it be to lengthen the tail a little?

Not easy, and it would lose the inherent 'Spitfire-ness'of the shape. But I could extend the fin rearwards, as well as adding the dorsal fin. That might do it.

Luckily ballast weights are invisible in WhiffWorld.

Of course one could take the Kurt Tank approach, slice off the tail, throw in a biscuit tin, and when that isn't enough add some planks to the vertical fin.

Make the vertical taller as well as broader?

Hope the flight manual told the pilot to go easy on the brakes!

Tricky with the rounded shapes?
I suppose one could add material between fin and rudder to extend back and up - but then the rudder itself would need extending. It is pretty vertical at tailplane level.
