NARSES2

Quote from: Jakko on September 03, 2023, 02:02:05 AMEarly M7 HMCs were built on what was basically the M3 medium tank lower hull, yes. Late ones used the M4A3 instead, recognisable by the one-piece cast nose, and the different engine deck and lower hull rear associated with the M4A3.

It was far, far easier when I was a kid in the 50's/60's and I thought there were just Lee's, Grant's and Sherman's.  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

And the trailing roller suspension units.
Though to be fair, they could be and were retrofitted to a lot of earlier hulls, if they survived long enough.

Wardukw

I have seen battle field pics of a Priest with new and old suspension units on it ...seems if it's a M3/M4 it's gonna fit
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Well, to be fair, the hull had a standard mounting plate and the units were both sized to fit it.
Same as the M4 units; you often see 4 holes or nuts on the forward, blank side face. It took me years to work out that they were the holes for the return roller bracket, used when the unit was on the other side.
And I have also seen a picture of an M4 with the return roller at the front of the unit... attached it on the opposite side when replacing a damaged unit and didn't bother to reposition it.

And pics of the ARV Lee with the heavier Sherman bogie at the front, to take more weight there.

Well soon enough I'll have 3 Sherman's added to my stash ..a Tamiya M51 ..a Tasca M4A3E8 Easy Eight and a Tasca M4 Jumbo ..score
And I freaking hate Sherman's 😠🙃

It still was in the 80s when I was a kid :) You had the Italeri M7B1 (that is, on M4A3 basis) and thought that was the Priest suitable for all theatres and times. This was also the time when you could build and paint a model in a week and be happy with it, instead of up to six months like it takes me nowadays ...

Yep, the medium bogies (with the return roller on the top) and the heavy bogies (with the trailing return roller) fit the same bolt holes in the hull. The HVSS bogies don't, they need a different pattern of holes in the lower hull as well as the lower edge of the hull to be chamfered (else the arms can hit it).

On the M32 tank recovery vehicle, they also served to bolt the stabilizer plates (which lock out the suspension) to on the first and last bogies:

I'm sure you don't hate Shermans, Phill, just the insanely large number of kits & builds of them that appear everywhere. ;)

I quite like Shermans but they are WELL over-represented in the armour modelling community.

There's a *lot* that's overrepresented as well as under represented.  Combat Service Support is, while getting better, always underrepresented.

Yeah, like Panzer Kampfwagens IV, V & VI, Jagdpanzers IV, V & VI, to a lesser extent Jagdpanzer 38(t) (a.k.a. Leichter Panzerjäger 38(t)) ... & most of the Heer '46 stuff. :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

The Tamiya M51 is a nice kit to build. Everything fits and looked right to me.

That's probably correct Womby mate as they are the basis for many wiffs and I've already got one in mind for the 2 Tasca Sherman's and there's an Israeli version I want to build aswell using that Italeri E8 Fury you sent me  ;D
Well a slight wiff version of it anyway
But your dead right on the amount out there but that can be said about all the Tigers..Panthers and Panzer IVs as well ..still tho I can foresee more Panzer IVs in my future  ;D

I'm still waiting on a reasonably priced* Morris 8cwt truck... seems a scratchbuild is still in my future.

*yeah, I'll keep dreaming...

Must finish the camper tank.  I used stretched sprue for fencing round the deck and stairs and i don't like how it looks.  I'm going to redo it with ezy line.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I don't remember where, but I did see once that someone converted one of the Takom FV 432 kits into a camper van-type interior :)
