Any of the above single malts are worthy of investigation, as are 15yr old Ardbeg,  the older Springbanks, and the products of the Highland Park distillery. 

  In fact, the only "bad" whisky I ever sampled was "Thai Mekong Whisky"  that a doctor friend brought back from Bangkok.     Totally undrinkable, it would have descaled boilers,  removed unwanted hair from garden gnomes  and, given time, etched through unobtainium billets. My friend said he eventually used it as an emergency sterilizing fluid for surgical instruments.

My wife likes Laphroaig; I like it, but I prefer Balvenie Single Malt or Glenlivet 12 or Glenlivet 16

Hmmm! I find that a bottle of Bells "whisky" will do just as well for those functions!  

While train testing in Scotland in the 70s, we stayed over the weekend at a lovely hotel nr Lockerbie, and our test crew filled the entire hotel. Unknown to us, the hotel owners had sold it to another company over the period we stayed there, so come the Saturday there was a whole new bunch of staff looking after us! The old owners had 'neglected' to tell their suppliers to continue with their usual orders and the new owners had assumed such orders would continue, NOT good.

By the Sunday evening our lot had pretty well drunk the place dry, and one of us, Andy, a Scottish lad himself, went to the bar and asked for a Glenmorangie, only to be told they'd run out, so he asked for a Blair Athol instead, with the same result. He said 'Well, what HAVE you got then?' And the poor girl behind the bar replied 'We've got some Johnny Walker'.

Andy looked horrified, saying 'Johnny Walker? I'm not drinking THAT muck, I want a proper WHISKY!'

Johnny Walker (red label)  does have its place in the great scheme of things.....................but its place is not in my glass, thank you.  It was once  described to me by a Glasgow police inspector  as a component part of "Sherriff Court" cocktails(a mix of cheap whisky,  high strength cider  and Buckfast Tonic Wine)   favoured by idiots in certain urban  areas of Scotland.  Drunk in one dose,  and a free appearance in front of the Procurator Fiscal after two or more.

Johnny Walker  (black label)  is an  adequate whisky  if you like bended Scotch  and the blue label (if you can find it) quite reasonable.     I have heard reports of green and gold labels, but I know nothing about them

I can quite understand that Kit's Scottish colleague would prefer a single malt.

Saturday I'm going to the Market Garden Airborne memorial which is just a short walk from my home.
And Saturday night I leave for the UK for my last airshow of the year at Duxford on Sunday.

Then the modelling show season can start,
I'm planning of being at Telford this year. At least on Sunday and perhaps also on Saturday.
And on the 25th of November we have the Dutch Nationals around here. This year I'm part of the organizing committee, helping with the registrations of traders and exhibitors.

All in all, enough to keep me busy......

Been there a couple of times for the memorial. As I've said a few times before Croydon and Arnhem are linked towns so we were encouraged to go as teenagers to keep an eye on the veterans, and I've been back a few times since.

There are many excellent blended whiskies. My favourites being VAT 69, J & B ,Jameson's and, Chivas Regal. Unfortunately, I think there's an awful lot of whisky snobbery ,especially among know it all whisky "experts" whose default position is to turn their noses up at the mere mention of the word "blend". Funny thing is, EVERY whisky starts out as a malt and, a blend is simply a multiple malt instead of a single malt.

Johnny Walker Green Label is a blend of whiskies, which has matured for 15 years. The Gold Label is a blend of 15 whiskies each of which is at least 18 years old.

Oh CRAP! I didn't realise that Telford was 2 days. Might have to revise some plans...

Already fairly certain that I'll be extending my stay until the following weekend, now on to the logistics.

I'm trying to get some things ready for spraying while I still can use the shed. If it get's too cold and damp, I have to pack it in until spring.

On the bench at the moment are a 1/48 Me-262 Mistel (Dragon kit) and a 1/72 FSW P-80 (Combination of Airfix P-80 and HFB-320 wings). I'm not sure if I can get then ready in time, so it could be next year until you see them.

I finished the De Havilland VixLiner (pictures later) and am alomst done with a rather different Red Arrows synchro pair pass.

I have quite a set of Bf-109 models painted and decalled to finsih with wheels and props during the winter. You will see the finished models appear over the winter I hope.

The main priority at the moment is getting a number of things ready to take to the Dutch Nationals in Houten at the 23rd of November.

On the whisky side, I opened a rather "different" bottle of whisky:


It's an Islay whisky with some Seaweed in the bottle. Although it's mostly for effect, I must say it is not really bad.
It's nice and peaty and smoky with some saltiness.
