Haven't yet decided if this will be 'in service', with full RCAF scheme and markings, or a North American Aviation attempt to sell them to the RCAF, with USAF registration but Canadian camo and roundels. Second idea sounds more unusual than the average whiff.

Raised panel lines on the fuselage have been sanded off and rescribed, painting of fiddly bits has started. So far this looks like a nice bit of kit.

Man that's a old kitset ..I'll be looking forward to seeing what ya do with it Dave..and yeah the second idea sounds good mate..I like the unusual 😀
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

How about a NAA "private venture" demonstrator with a civil registration like the various Gloster Meteor private ventures? US manufacturers did the same thing in the 1930s i.e. the Grumman GG-1 demonstrator that was
sold to CanCar and used to promote the CanCar produced G-23 "Goblin".

Looking at the FAA website it appears that N86DN was never issued or reserved
so that would be a viable N-number to use.

Just a notion that popped into my head.

Possibly. Might need to print my own decals for that.

Took jcf's suggestion and went for a company demonstrator, and this time my home-printed decals aren't total crap. Not great, but servicable. Might replace the ones on the wings, I didn't quite trim them close enough. Air brakes have been removed after decalling, no swearing involved. Brakes

Trimming those home printed decals is a real pain sometimes, specially when it's a roundel!

You did a pretty good job on those RCAF ones this time, so do you use a special technique for it, other than watch the scalpel blade like a hawk as you traverse around the edge?

I find trimming with scissors better than with a scalpel or knife but sometimes it is easier to use a fine brush and touch up over the white than it is to trim to an exact circle.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Yup or get a compass cutter. Managed to break mine, need a new one at Telford.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I've got one, but it won't go all that small, and it digs a small hole in the middle of the decal every time.

I've used it sometimes, and done Fred's 'paint trim' solution as well, but find a two layer method, with a slightly undersized white background with a larger colour top layer that overlaps the white works as well as any method.

I have a pair of scissors that I presume are made for use by people trimming fingernails, it has a curved blade. No idea where I got them. For the air brakes I carefully used a pointed toothpick to press the decal into the seam line, then used that to guide my scalpel. Didn't work perfectly, but good enough. If I take a few more looks and don't like it, well, I printed up a lot more roundels.  ;D

Go ahead! And I might look into a compass cutter.

I've had a very sore throat for about a week, passed a COVID test so that's good. But I've been rather quiet, and I'm sure that Monica hopes it lasts!  ;D  ;D

And that's the one I've printed, thanks! My mind, such as it is, was fighting over the colour, finally decided on a very light grey, should look almost white against that camo.
