GOOD choice Chris, Tangmere has an amazing atmosphere about it, doesn't it? It all happened right THERE!

I once visited the place mid-week while waiting for some parts to arrive from the USA, and there were very few visitors, but one guy was standing in front of WB188, the all red Hunter F3 which broke the World Air Speed Record in 1953, flown by Neville Duke. We both of us just stood there marvelling at it, and I turned to the other guy and said., 'What a wonderful looking machine, isn't she?' He turned to me and replied 'Yes, she always flew very well, even at that speed' and I suddenly realised he WAS Neville Duke!!!!  :o

We had quite a long chat about Hunters, the museum, of which he was the President, and flying very fast in prototype aeroplanes. A wonderful man for sure.

A day out with old friends, a museum and a lunch afterwards - what's not to like?
And some understanding of our hobby too? - bonus!

Yup I was surprised at both the amount there was to see and how busy it was for a Tuesday morning. It does have to be said that there were a lot of people of "grandparent" age having a few days off around Chichester in general. We reckoned it was first week after the kids went back to school and they were all getting away after a summer spent babysitting  ;D

Strangely enough I had quite a long chat with one of the museum guides about WB188, and we also had a good chat about the footage they have of the FD.2 breaking the World Speed record. I don't think he was Neville Duke though  ;) Personally I've always thought the Fairey's achievement has never been given the recognition it deserves ?

That would have been clever as Neville sadly died in 2007 Rather poignantly as he was flying his wife in their GA aircraft when he felt ill, but landed at Popham and collapsed, and later died that same day. :(

I'm with you on the FD2 and Peter Twiss' achievement, he raised the record by 300 mph!

I met him too, had lunch with him at the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes, as you do.  ;D

When I was a student in Portsmouth.  We used to ride our motorbikes to Tangmere and thrash them round the perimeter track.  There was still a runway there but it had piles of rubble tipped on it.  Not sure if this was deliberate or the result of fly tipping.  They didn't bother to lock the place up.
Thats all gone now.  It's a housing estate.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

After a couple of weeks out and about I managed to get back to the bench today. Got some masking done on the Tempest. Now masking is not my favourite part of the process and unfortunately is the stage that is effected most by my hand/eye coordination issues etc. Add a couple of other medical issues and it's a B to put it mildly. Still this particular scheme requires it, so onwards and upwards

Also spent a large part of the morning swearing at Google, Microsoft and Norton  :banghead:  :banghead:  When I rule the world ....... ;)

A little progress on various projects. Next week looks to be Editorship duties and Flu/Covid jabs so won't be much then. Still onwards and upwards.  ;D

On a different subject. Surrey won the County Championship again  and the county I follow when Up North, Durham, walked away with the Division 2 title   So I forsee Surrey v Durham at the Oval next year. Divided loyalties ? No chance  ;)

Good news as I presume the diabetes checkup went well. Also - that jabbing is a smart move!

The last Covid jab made feel really worn out, but that was it. As for diabetes? During last years annual check-up the doctor told me that my body was no longer diabetic. , and my medication was drastically reduced. I Was fine at the 6 month check if I'm still ok this year then I come off it  Still need to keep an eye on it, but
