The Wooksta!

Probably needs a dedicated thread rather than Kit's thread.

I had two assembled Airfix Bv 141s, one stalled and a salvage that I'd built back in 1993.  These two are going Spanish.  All the airframe stuff is done and tidied up.  The salvage needed a tad more cleanup and filler, but that's all done and dusted.  Both got a coat of RLM 65 underneath when I was doing other things. As usual with me, interest waned and they stalled.

Fast forward to a week or so back and I threw together parts of a third. Thinking captured but as yet undecided on a scheme.  Decidedly unhappy with the lack of interior with the kit - although it's more than some manufacturers were giving us until very recently - so I decided to tart it up and out came the plastic card, using a photo of a Hobbyboss 48th kit interior as a basis.

You can see sod all through the canopy, but it has to be a bit better than what was not it there.

As I was going along, I made duplicate parts to tart up the other two. The lack of interior was a major reason for stalling.

Adding the same parts to the long stalled one was interesting.

Not much else happening - the Ju 352 is getting most of my attention - but one of the cowlings got a coat of black and the props for two are done. Albeit in black. All the canopies have had a bath in Kleer.

I'm tempted with a desert scheme for another Spanish one, plus maybe a night fighter (using Fw 190 wing mounted aerials) with captured markings.  Possibly a Czech one as they flew a multitude of myriad ex Luftwaffe types.

Wish I knew where the wheels have gone...

Did you get the 141 landing gear and canopy yet?

Yes, that parcel arrived safely last week.

Thanks for pics. I need this to keep my mojo going!

The canopies are on and they fit about as well as vintage Airfix - they fit where they touch.  Lots of filler required.

Masking is a pain at best, not helped by indistinct glazing. Some bits are just blank.  Masking one is a pain, but three?

Really can't understand why the likes of Falcon didn't do a replacement. They did every other sodding Luftwaffe type, whether we needed them or not.

I've decided on a late war brown/dark green scheme, as the nacelle being in the latter could partially hide the vile canopy, with a replacement engine cowling in 02.  One of the Spanish ones is going with dark green uppers anyway.

Finally, I've test fitted a Jumo 213 cowling from an Italeri Ju 188 and it fits nicely.  This could be the B-3 version with a larger fin to mitigate some lateral instability issues.  Mind, any build of said variant will be after I've recovered from fighting the trio of canopies...

The undersides are done on all three, so now for some masking.

Having second thoughts about the green Spanish one and I'm minded to an early one in straight Luftwaffe colours but with the white rudder and St Andrew's cross, Falangist red/black fuselage roundel and Spanish roundels proper on the wings.

I'm also thinking about a high altitude version with a Ju 388 cockpit and BMW 801TJ engine, possibly longer wings.  Some thought required for this one.

Methinks you'll have Kit's undivided attention with that comment...  ;D

Sounds like they'll be interesting to watch progress.

It's more an extension of something I was considering with a Bv P.194.  I think the latter is perhaps a better starting point, given it's part of a development line.

The as yet unkitted P.194.03, without the well extensions and the jet in line with the crew pod, that could be an ideal basis.

Older shot whilst tidy up work was going on with the stalled and salvage models.

Primed and filler on.  The salvage one is on the left.  That's going in the two tone green uppers.  RLM 63 uppers for the other one with a black engine cowl. I'm almost tempted with a three colour scheme, but can't face the masking.

Might have....................  ;D

That pair of them sitting ready for their engines and windows reminds me just how BIZARRE the darn thing looks!  :o

Getting that glazing to a: sit properly and b: blend in relatively seemlessly has been the bane of my life over the last week.  The lack of defined frame lines in some areas doesn't help either.

Having to do it three times is simply cruel.

Progress on number 3

Underside masked but the bottle of Xtracrylix RLM 76 I have is not good. I do have an idea or two of how to fix it.

Close up of the glazing.  Still not perfect at the back, but it's going in a darkish scheme so it may look a bit better.

The entry hatch is the weakest part and obvious, but there's nowt I can do now.

Yeah, that hatch glazing is a right pain. OOB it's too darn big, and if you file it or the cockpit to suit, it falls inside!  :banghead:

Looking good, Lee

Had a BV141 as a teenager - an intriguing and eccentric looking machine.  Have been tempted on many occasions to relive my yoof and buy/build another (or get two and do a whif twin-boomer) but I know it'd never get built.  So thanks for doing not one but three for me!

And also thanks Kit for your extreme 141 whif that I'd never have come up with in a million years.

Now all I need to do now is not give in to the temptation that is an Airfix FW189.

I didn't realize that was the hatch... I hadn't actually given too much (or any) thought to ingress/egress...
Would a small horizontal barrier inside the lower edge (to stop the part falling in) and a couple of 10 thou shims correct the fit?
