Quote from: Beermonster58 on October 11, 2023, 04:15:31 AMDon't you get any sort of concessionary travel card? In the northern colony Over 60s are all entitled to a National Entitlement card which gives free bus travel anywhere in Scotland on any (other than those designated special or premium rate) services. I'm over 60 and, because I have disability I have what is known as a "companion" card. That means Someone travelling with me also travels free. My partner who is 11 years younger (she's 53) has a Disabled Persons Concession card which also gives her free travel throughout Scotland. I honestly though England at least had similar but, guess I was wrong.  :-\

Over 60's in Greater London get free travel on all forms of transport post 9:00am (9:30am on National Rail), Mondays to Fridays and all day weekends within the Greater London Boundary. The bus travel part of it is valid all over the UK. McColm hasn't reached that age yet
Poor choice of words on my part for which I apologise.. What I should have said was that while over 60s are automatically entitled to a concession card, under 60s with a disability can also receive one.
The way I understand it is the definition of a disability. I don't show any of the typical signs of distress. After having a telephone conversation with another doctor from the South Street, Greenwich surgery this afternoon, it doesn't matter how many pulmonary embolisms I've had or what my mental health state, is they want me to return to work as soon as possible besides the fact that I haven't had a full medical check-up since leaving hospital. I did receive a Fit Note that covers me until the 11th of December via an email. I did ask for a referral to get a food voucher for the Trussell Trust but I haven't received any reply..
Sorry to hear that. I have a long term and degenerative health condition (osteo arthritis in both knees). That was one of the criteria that qualified me for Adult Disability Payment - a k a Personal Independence Payment.
I was declared medically Unfit for work by my GP earlier  this year.
That sounds really painful, unfortunately I don't qualify for the PIP payment despite two appeals  back in 2022. If I push my body too far I suffer for it in the next few days. The things that I took for granted, I just can't do anymore, I have to think first of how to achieve this before doing it and the consequences afterwards. I would have thought the feeling of tiredness would have been over by now. Even naps in the afternoon don't seem to work. There has to be another way of getting better, something that I have missed, probably something so simple to someone but until I figure it out for myself the road to recovery is further away.

That really sucks mate! :-\ .
Yes, arthritis is very painful but, it's the stiffness that's the worst as, it really impairs my mobility. That said, I can live with it because I'm otherwise in good health. I don't complain about it because there are others not as fortunate as I am.  Long term, I might have to get both knees replaced but, I'm not ready to go down that road yet!! All I can really say is good luck to you and, hope you can find a way forward soon!

My mum has Colex injections for her arthritis, she has also tried acupuncture which gives temporary relief but isn't a cure. I appreciate the advice from all of your comments, I know that I will get better and I have made improvements since leaving hospital. I've accepted what I have and just take each day as it comes.

Both my parents have had knee replacements, and it's been revolutionary. The recovery was a pain though, as you really have to exercise quite a lot despite being in pain to make it mend right. If you can do it - do it!
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

I was given a link to Greenwich Live Well by my Universal Credit Work Coach and I have found a food bank that operates out of the Charlton Athletic Football stadium which is literally around the corner from where I live. There's a small annual joining fee and it's £3.50 for £10-£15 worth of food per week. So I will be signing up for this at the end of the month.

On the workbench the Airfix 1/144 de Havilland Comet 4B has been converted into a amphibious flying boat AEW, I have added fuel tanks to the upper and lower wings, reused the landing gear wheels plus spare parts from a 1/144 Be-200 kit.
The Mcdonnell Douglas Harrier Eagle has had the landing gear added and the engine exhaust pipes rearranged.
The Grumman-Lockheed Panther continues with PSR  whilst PSR continues with my other builds.

Saturday 14th October 2023

I woke way too early this morning and caught the sunrise. I need to invest in a pair of binoculars as I don't live that far from London City Airport, sure I see a lot of helicopter activity over the Charlton area plus the odd flight depending on the wind direction. Sometimes it's the Police or the British Transport Police buzzing overhead.
As for the next GB that starts on the first of November, I might need to buy one of each model. Too many ideas in my head at the moment, a few more Airfix F-35B kits and the de Havilland Sea Vixen.
I've been watching episodes of NCIS Los Angeles, so why don't they have bullet proof glass fitted in their vehicles? I know it's the first thing that the baddies shoot at. Having done a course of evasive driving back in the day I would have thought that the technical advisor would have said something about this to the director. Then there's the shootouts, surely the capture of one bad guys so that they can question him or her, instead of the kill shot. I know it's entertainment with a thin line of realism portrayed even firing when the gun is empty.
Back to the workbench, PSR continues, primer will be next.

The only cop show based in LA that isn't complete fantasy is "Bosch" - at least the neighborhoods and relative distances between them are accurate.

I thought that the Jaguar, Harrier and Buccaneer were only aircraft but they are also names of cars. The Jaguar is a car company, the Harrier has been used by Tata as an SUV but they had to rename the model as Toyota has the rights as they too produce the Harrier SUV. The Buccaneer appears in an online game based on the Buick Riviera and Ford Fairline so as this is an American muscle car there's probably a 1/24 scale model that can be used as the donor. A bit of research is required. Then there's the Bristol Buccaneer EV, although no working prototype has been built yet just concept artwork so it looks like a kitbash could be possible.
There's always the Dial Buccaneer kit car,now that does look like a kitbash.

Don't go spending any money until rules are discussed, published and agreed.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I think that's one of the things that annoys me the most about police shows that are filmed in neighbourhoods that you know. They turn a corner and suddenly are 3 miles away rather than actually around the corner  :banghead:  However does it really matter ?

Don't get me going about 'Morse', 'Lewis' and 'Endeavour' please!  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Oxford is the nearest I have to a 'home town'...................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Oddly the one that annoys me the most is Gently as for a Londoner I know the North East quite well. It's just that they always seemed to come to the coast opposite Redcar No 1 Blast Furnace no matter where they'd started out from.   Mind you No 1's gone now, blown up this year. So sad, furnaces are alive  :-\

Some of the Professionals TV series was filmed in Ealing, Acton and Chiswick. The one with the former cinema in Hangar Lane is nowhere near the so-called housing estate. Why they didn't use Connell Crescent which is practically the next street away and backs onto the forecourt of the old cinema. Some of the episodes of Minder and Renter Ghost were also filmed very close to where I was living in Ealing.

frank2056

we watched "Morse" and even I could tell that the geography was waaay off. One LA cop movie that did get the urban landscape correctly was the 1975 "Mitchell" with Joe Don Baker. A dog of a movie, it's only watchable as riffed my Mystery Science Theater 3000. It was filmed within 2 miles (or less) of where I live now and where I've lived most of my life. The streets and addresses are all reasonably correct.

The Avro-Lockheed Sea Turtle MR.1 aka the Nepleton or Shackletune as it's a kitbash of the Hasegawa Neptune and Revell Shackleton AEW.2 now has the engines glued in place. Although one fitted perfectly whilst the other had some issues. The two outer engines were no problem. The contra-rotating propellers have been assembled but won't be added until the fuselage has been painted. The landing gear has also been fitted along with the rear tail wheels (the main landing gear is from the Revell kit and the tail wheel is the nose wheel of the Revell Br.1150 Atlantic model). The pair of turbojets are from the Hasegawa Lockheed Neptune kit.
I  found the torpedoes from the Hasegawa Shinmeiwa PS-1 model and they will be fitted to two underwing pylons from the F-15D. The theory is that a pair of long-range fuel tanks are in the weapons bay.
The Shackleton wasn't fitted with a searchlight as this would have blinded the crew, instead flares were used fired from tubes on the right side of the rear fuselage.
Whilst this was happening I was listening to the Navy Lark radio recordings, written by Ronnie Barker.
