I keep looking at these kits and the horror stories about the quality of them and the fact that they are too big for me to build where I am now let alone display have put me off getting one, but I might have room when I move house, so my question is, does anyone here have one of these kits, and if so what are they like , also has anyone built one.
Cheers

Not built the kit yet myself even though I have two in the stash, one to be in the 1960's scheme as provided in the box and the other to be RNZAF.

There is a good build on Britmodeller https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235013713-mach-2-armstrong-whitworth-argosy-c-mk1/
although they get the interior wrong a bit as can be seen from the pictures I took last time I was visiting Telford when I popped into Cosford as you do.

Haveing looked at the kits there really is nothing that a good strong glue and a very firm file can't sort out depending on the level of detail you want to add.

I looked at the thread title and immediately thought of swept wings and BIG afterburning turbo-fan engines etc.  :o

Then I read it and came back down to earth................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Now theres a thought.
Thanks Alastair, I think I will buy myself one when funds allow, and put it away for when I have moved. I am thinking of a wrap around camouflage mid 1970's time frame, off loading a landrover and an armoured car of some sort.
Cheers

Argosy

Re-winged and re-engined versions only?

I pay little, if any attention to internet "horror " stories about kits. I prefer to just get on with them. I have built three Mach 2 kits, including the Argosy which, was by no means as bad as some would like to portray. They are, to be sure, challenging builds but, I'd build a Mach 2 kit before (for example) I'd build any bloody vac form kit.

What I do find amusing though is, despite all the "horror" stories, the company is still with us  and, continuing to produce kits of items that nobody else will bother with (at least in 1/72).  I would never, for example, imagine that an aircraft like the Martin Seamaster would ever tempt a kit manufacturer. I like these "outside the box" (no pun intended) subjects. Thank you MACH 2 for producing one  .

I have recently purchased the Douglas EC-24. Not too many DC-8s or variants thereof in 1/72 either so, another reason to be grateful .I think it's worth pointing out that Mach 2 is a tiny (one man) operation and, quite frankly, I think he deserves to be commended for continuing to produce such rare subjects that are obviously, despite the adverse comments, selling in sufficient numbers to keep the business going.

I guess it depends on how much you want a particular subject. If you want it badly enough, then an imperfect kit is better than no kit and, you will put the work into it.
Maybe the customers also ignore the horror stories and, just get on with the models?    ;)  ;D .

Oh dear....what have I started here eh?? :-\  ;D
In other news, I have ordered an RAF version, which after having a good look at the box contents, will be sealed away in a big cardboard box, not quite forever.
