Artificial Intelligence (AI) and model kit building?

There's been a lot of news in the last year or so concerning Artificial Intelligence (AI). Things like ChatGPT, OpenAI, and other various AI programs and such.
AI has the potential to either usher in new frontiers of science and discovery, or it can be humanity's downfall.
But the question here is: What role could AI provide, if any, when it comes to the modeling hobby industry? How could it be used? And for what?
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

The first thing to understand is that there's no "intelligence" behind any of these "AI" products. None.

I tried using one of the free image generators (Dall-E) to produce images. The first prompt was for 1930s pulp style spacecraft in the style of Frank R. Paul. The output (I tried it several times, with slight variations) was not even close to 1930s pulp, or Frank R, Paul's style. Really poor. It also decided to put his name (or a variation, like "Plauk" on the spaceship) on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 3 for the best output.

I then made a simple request: A jet powered P-47. I got P-47s, with props and smoke coming out the rear, or from the wingtips. The wings looked off as well.

Here's a laughable output that I posed on BTS:

I wanted a tuna boat. I got... a tuna boat:

The paid version of Dall-E might produce better results, or premium generators like Midjourney, but I doubt it.

I also tried ChatGPT, which is mildly more useful - but it's so prone to generating BS that you really need to know the answer before you pose the question. One area where it does OK is program code generation. I'm working on a small embedded project and gave ChatGPT a description of what I wanted in the code. After a few tries, it produced code that looked beautiful, compiled, almost worked... but was absolute crap. In the end, I replaced most of the generated code.

Also, there is work already to counter the art theft (scraping) in machine "art" https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/25/23931592/generative-ai-art-poison-midjourney

Mind you, some of the results are amusing, and some are well done but, at the same time, AI generation is more along the lines of art theft.

At least the content in my renders is mine, as I purcha$ed the assets in my library.

All of it based on faulty, and overly simplistic, definitions and mechanistic conceptions of the nature of intelligence. The majority are stuck on the antiquated notion that if you build a machine of enough complexity it'll somehow spontaneously become sentient.
Ain't going to happen and if, big if, some assembly of hardware and software developed "intelligence" it's doubtful that we'd even know as it would be completely alien. The vast majority of sci-fi and techbro boosting is all from a "God created Man in His Own Image" mindset. That somehow this new independent intelligence would just be us in a "machine" form.

Spey_Phantom

while AI's can be fun at times, im mostly against it.
if your using AI to create a script or artwork, then that just shows you're lazy and have no imagination or creativity.
maybe it should become a rule not to come out with AI generated models or art, as its technicly not your work.

l can see a use for AI to write whif bsckstories, and generate what-if profiles and Spinner's style artwork, but it's a lazy way; or it that being ablelist?
Whatever.

Lost Cosmonauts

There are a few AI tools emerging for generating stl and obj files suitable for printing as models or model parts. Not there yet in terms of producing scale subjects but well on the way.

A ways off yet but certainly coming

I tried that link and the pop up about cookies made me think they are more concerned with sending my data around the world and personalized ads than their "product". Pass.

I used AI to generate the backstory for my Jet DH2 and will be using it again because I am lazy and proud of it.

And my muse can't be relied on so sometimes I need help.
