Well I cut plastic on one of the new tool Airfix Me 410's yesterday and this one is destined for Hungarian AF service.

I know they had Me 210's so it might be a bit of a "double take" build. Destined to be in a camouflage scheme similar to some of the Italian aircraft they operated simply because I don't do mottles, useless at it and never have figured out how to do it to my satisfaction with a brush  :-\

Typical new tool Airfix in terms of fit, if it doesn't fit then your doing something wrong, and I'm currently working on the cockpit with its plethora of small parts. However Airfix's instructions and the fact that they use lots of assembly stages, each with a couple of parts are easy to follow. They do seem to draw you in though. I think it's simply because you can look at the next stage, see it only has 2 parts, and then go "oh I'll just do that one before I take a break"

Try stippling with an almost dry brush, slightly wetter than if you were dry-brushing details.

Tried that a few years ago and whilst I was relatively happy with it at first, once I saw airbrushed mottle that was it. Tended to avoid it since.

It's tricky, but I do Luftwaffe mottles with a brush (only), too, with the aforementioned quasi-dry-brushing technique. Requires some practice but works well.

The Wooksta!

I lost the knack for air brush mottle as I'd given up so all my captured Luftwaffe have solid camo.

IIRC Hungary kept 40% of the Me 210s they built, the rest went to the Luftwaffe, so they were finished in RLM colours and camo.  You could go for the green bomber scheme?  I'm assuming alternate bits in the box.

Made some gentle progress with this and I now have a completed fuselage and various other sub-assemblies. Gorgeous kit

Got to a point where I need to think seriously about the camouflage scheme. I've been seriously tempted to give it a 3 colour upper scheme based on the Italian aircraft the Hungarian's aquired pre-war, and I could possibly explain it away ? but I'll probably settle for a two colour upper scheme possibly using late war colours ? Although I've seen some interesting Russian Front 109's in sand and green uppers. Decisions, decisions

Whilst building this I had my first experience of using Eduard's new "spACE" range of 3D decals on the interior. Easy to use and look good. Far better looking than transfers and easier to use than etch. Could well get a couple more for kits that "deserve" them.

Soon. I did remember to take some pictures of the interior before I closed it up. Just need to download them, edit them and post them via PB. All in good time

Hows it fitting?  Still going together easily?

It's fitting together very well. One or two of the matting surfaces, especially around the engine nacelle/wing joints need a very gentle sand with some worn 400 grit  just to help them ease into position prior to applying glue, but that's it.

In all honesty it's a pleasure to build. The only "downside" is the amount of time the interior takes to put together and paint. Just hope it's visible behind that quite heavily framed canopy. Still the way Airfix have laid the build out means you can go ahead and make a lot of sub-assemblies knowing they will fit

Here's some shots of the interior. Not great but hopefully give some idea of the detail the Eduard set adds
