I think you're thinking of the first Class 52 Western, D1000 'Western Enterprise', which was painted in Desert Sand, but later in Maroon and Blue.

AFAIK none of the D800 Class 42 Warships got painted in that shade, thank goodness. One of the remaining 42s, D832 'Onslaught', has my signature in its log book as I signed it in to the RTC at Derby some time in 1972 when it was consigned to us for some APT system testing, but that never actually happened, thus saving it for preservation.

That could be, they look quite similar and I am not an expert concerning British railways history! I just remember a picture of it, and it was ... special.

In the meantime, all sixteen window panels (in three different material strengths!) have been completed, now it's time for some piant touch-ups, decals and weathering. I will also try to add some interior in nthe engine room, because you can directly see thorugh the now.-clear windows and there's only the directional switch in that area. Already working on a simple solution.

Just FYI, thread was moved (back) due to personal confusion and work outside the Shelf Queen GB's timeframe.  :banghead:  My mistake, but work goes (lsowly) on., nevertheless.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Dizzyfugu

This one here, definitively, due to the project's nature and external factors.

We have engines on board!  ;D

Some modern V 200 models use light grey plastic dummies behind the side windows, but I rather went for simple prints on paper with more shadow/contrast, and set a bit deeper into the hull so that there's the impression of the narrow walkway between the end stands. Works well.

More progress, I have to catch up a little - this time: decals and some weathering before the final coat with varnish:

What still scares me a little and leaves me with some question marks is how I will fix some of the window panes. The thick/deep ones can be pressed into the openings, even the thinner windscreens, but the thin parts have to be glued in place somehow. I will try to mount and secure them all with a generous blob of Clearfix. This will take time and is not 100% certain to work, but I cannot imagine a better solution. We'll see soon.

"He's dead, Jim!", disaster struck. No, this is not a snow simulation, but rather matt clear varnish... Or what it is/was supposed to be.  :-\

Made a spray test and everything looked fine, but once the stuff started to dry up it turned out to be quite grainy and opaque, just like white paint!

No chance to save the body. Back to square one, almost. All the paint and decals have to be removed and built up again. :-(
At least I know how to get there, but after the stressful past weeks I'd have appreciated a more supportive outcome.

Oh hell, that's a real disaster Thomas!  :banghead:

Hope you can get it sorted again.

I agree with Kit's comment, that does not look good, hope you can get over this problem.

The body is already back again in the brake fluid bath...  :-\
I guess it will take less time to strip it down again than the first time.

Hrmpf!  :banghead:

So I can avoid it if I run across it in the future.
