Gentlemen

During the course of 2023 we lost two of our members who together truly represented the entire spectrum of our branch of this hobby of ours. I'm of course referring to Kitnut617 who stood firmly on the historical flank of our hobby and Tophe who's imagination was boundless.

Now over the course of the last few months the possibility of holding a In Memoriam GB has been mentioned to me both in person and via PM/e-mail and I've said that I would get around to looking at it. Well on the assumption that we will be running this GB there is only one thing to consider and that is timing ?

We have two options in my opinion :-

Option 1 - To replace the third GB of the current season (The 60's GB) with it.

Option 2 - To make it the first GB of the 2024/2025 season, in which case it would run from July to September 2024 and we would only be voting for 2 GB's when it comes to organizing next years Poll.

Now I've included a third option in the poll ; "Neither of the above" and if you select that can I ask you to either note your idea as a reply to this thread or if you prefer send me a PM.

I'll leave the Poll open for 10 days or so.

What if we changed "none of the above" to a theme build? Then it could run whenever we want.
Otherwise timing doesn't matter to me.

Good idea, Chris, thanks for launching the discussion and I've voted accordingly.

As a theme build, have it running "in the background"  from , say, January 1st to December 31st WITH NO EXTENSIONS  as an extra to the planned group builds?  Or is this just another half-baked piece of idiocy from North Hereford?

Just a spur of the moment from northeast Illinois.

Re a Theme Build.

The only problem in my experience with this, and I've not done any analysis of the numbers, is that they tend to "wither on the vine". As an example the Mike McEvoy Tribute Build attracted 7 entries. It's a case of "I'll take part in this, but not at the moment. I've plenty of time" and then other ideas/GB's crop up and you never get around to it.

As for "having it running in the background as an extra GB. We already have one of those running in the Shelf Queen GB, to add another one would simply overload the system and again one or the other, or both would "wither on the vine" as the enthusiasm for the next upcoming "normal" GB took off.

Tophe and Kitnut deserve nothing less than a full blown GB.

I favour holding this GB as the third GB of the current season and moving the 60's GB to the first GB of the next one.

I voted for 1st GB of the 2024/2025 season.

1. All Narses' comments about theme GBs withering on the vine are valid.

2. Replacing the last 2023 GB means overturning something that people have already debated and voted for, and that seems disrespectful.

3. Making it the first GB of the next season means that everybody voting for 2024/2025 GBs knows what the score is before they start.

1.  Yes.

2,  Possibly.  But as I voter I don't feel disrespected.  This is important to me and I think it should be done next (I was going to point out that politicians do this all the time but realised how ridiculous it would be).

Yes. Your post went up while I was typing mine. I think both approaches are valid.

From a purely personal point of view this would suit me.

I don't c are what we do, I just like building models.

Ken I second that ..thats a fun idea and also zero worries on a GB you want to be in but don't have  the models required ..yeah I like this 👌

Please see my reply regarding Theme Builds

Also there is absolutely nothing that says you can't go your own way and build your own tribute to Tophe as and when you want and post it in the "normal" threads. In my opinion and experience Theme Builds don't work, collectively we just don't seem to have that long an attention span.

HOWEVER I'm more than happy to set up an "In Memoriam" Theme Build thread as well as organising a more formal Group Build.
