Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Hokaaayyy... Another project occupies the already crowded factory floor - the old Revell Vought Cutlass. It's the same age as me!  ;D

Plan is to have it re-engined with RR Avons, which will give the 'Gutless' a lot more oomph, and a lighter weight. Now, the extra suckage of the Avons will require a larger intake, so I'm thinking of just cutting the intakes back to about where I have marked in red. Might put an angle on them like the original, just because it looks kind of cool. New fuselage wall section would incorporate a splitter plate. As you can tell from the plastic dust, sanding off oversize rivets and markings has already begun.

The butt-end will also need larger exhaust, not sure whether to just have larger holes or scrounge for pipes to add a bit of character.

I'm hoping that the C of G wouldn't be affected severely, depending on where it is in relation to the engines.

What say you, gents?

Nothing like grinding off all those volleyball sized rivets and the tree trunk sized decal locations!

I've got that kit as well, but my plan is to scaleorama the thing back to 1/72, having it as "instead of a Tomcat" interceptor. Someone did it before, but I intend to take it a little bit further, going for a more elaborate radar installation etc

That looks SO good as a 2-seater!

Airfix Spitfire Mk Vc tropical, had it in the stash for a while and now it joins others on the production floor. Wasn't sure about the 'azure blue' underside paint, so I mixed some Revell Aqua paints together, Light Blue #50 and White #05. Not sure how close it is, but it's done now, sprayed and not too bad. It's a slightly lighter shade than the picture shows.

Markings? The kit is intended for Australian green camo, with a white tail, but that ain't happening. Might try experimenting with decal printing (again) and give it to the Fuerza AĆ©rea de Chile, with desert camo, 2-tone brown.

That looks pretty close.  If you've got the new tool Vc, steal the spare canopy, as the one in that release is little more than a joke.

As for potential end users... Iran.  They did try buying Spitfires pre war.  Perhaps they salvaged one or two from a scrap dump?

Yeah, there's two identical canopies in that release, both naff. But my budget isn't up for buying another kit just for one part.
Iran was short-listed in my plans, as were a few African nations.

I think this is old. Clear #35, and it still works.

If its been sealed all this time, I don't see why it shouldn't.

Top was a bit wonky, so I've had it open before, but probably not in about 50 years or more.

That's almost as long as I've been modelling... :o
