Airfix have an "up tp 50%" sale on 54 items at the moment. There's some decent stuff in there, with decent discount:

https://uk.airfix.com/shop/new-year-sale?langPath=airfix-uk&filters%5Bin_stock%5D=true&filters%5Bproduct_clearance%5D=&filters%5Bmin_price%5D=0&filters%5Bmax_price%5D=77.59&filters%5BPre-Order%5D=&filters%5BBrand%5D=&filters%5BItem%20Scale%5D=&filters%5BFinish%5D=&filters%5BSkill%20Level%5D=&filters%5BFlying%20Hours%5D=&filters%5BEra%5D=&filters%5Bmandatory_filter_by%5D%5Bproduct_group%5D=Airfix%20New%20Year%20Sale&page_id=141828&sort-by=8&page=1

Although it says "up to 50%", I notice that some of the duds, principally the stupidly expensive resin WWII scenery items are now at "get these damned things out of our warehouse" prices that are even lower than 50%. For instance, the Polish Bank is down from £36 to £6, and the European City Steps from £24 to £4, which is about what both of them are actually worth. If you can find a 1/72nd-ish Joachim Phoenix's Joker figure, the steps might have possibilities...

Airfix also have a new "bundle" package that might be of interest to many here.

It contains one of each of the following (all in 1/72nd scale):

Vulcan B.2 BLACK BUCK
Vickers Valiant
Sea Harrier FRS.1
Lightning F.2A
Meteor F.8
Buccaneer S.2 Gulf War

Bundle price is £149.99, which is a substantial saving on the individual RRPs, which would come to £233.44.

If I didn't already have all the SHARs, Lightnings, Meteors and Buccs I'll ever need, I could have been tempted by that.

Another thing to note about the Airfix sale is that there are a couple of Dogfight Doubles in there that are HEAVILY discounted, which makes the price-per-kit VERY low: even lower than individual discount prices if you want both kits.

Skyhawk + MiG-17
Dogfight double: RRP: £35.99, Airfix sale: £14.99,  price per kit: £7.50
Skyhawk: RRP: £17.99, Hobbycraft 3-for-2 sale: £18.00
MiG-17: RRP: £17.99, Hobbycraft 3-for-2 sale: £18.00, Airfix sale: £8.99

Note that even if you got either kit for "free" in the Hobbycraft 3-for-2 sale, you'd still have paid £18 for the other one, while the DD sale price is £15 for both.
This makes the Airfix sale unbeatable, IF you can make your order up to £30 to get free postage.

Wildcat + Zero
Dogfight Double:  RRP: £29.99, Airfix Sale: £14.99, price per aircraft: £7.50
Wildcat: RRP: £11.99, Hobbycraft 3-for-2 sale: £12.00
Zero: RRP: £8.99, Hobbycraft 3-for-2 sale: £9

This is less clear. If the Zero was the cheapest kit, and therefore "free", in your Hobbycraft 3-for-2 buy, then you'd have got both aircraft for £12, which is less than the DD sale price of £15. However this does depend on you wanting a third kit more expensive than the Zero to make up the 3-for-2. Also, if you don't have a local Hobbycraft, then you'll have to pay £4.45 for postage unless you can get your order up to over £25.

Postage:
Airfix standard delivery (UK) is £3.95 or free if your order is over £30
Hobbycraft standard delivery (UK) is £4.45 or free if you order over £25
So not much to choose between them.

I have heard that the 2024 Airfix Club special is the D-Day Duo of Hawker Typhoon and Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX.

Did Airfix do their usual Advent Calendar last year? I missed it anyway.

The built model of the Typhoon is a bit misleading as people will expect to have the Port Wing gun bay openable when the kit is not designed with that as an option.

That's what happens when you use the same picture of the large kit for all the other scales, too...

Gondor

Exactly, you disappoint some people, but that's likely to happen regardless.

There again, some modellers are only happy when they find the 'Fatal Flaw', which enables them to slam the kit... if one doesn't exist, they'll find something to b!tch about, anyway...

And a lot of the same bunch who would salivate over that, or even napkinwaffe, would turn their collective noses up at whiffs. Because apparently Luft '46 is the only speculative type of modeling.

If it wasn't for Lulf 46 and Paper Panzers modelling would be boring beyond words.
We've all built so many of the same subject over the yrs it's mental.
How many 109s or Spitfires or Mustangs can ya build without changing anything ..your choices aren't  many when you think about it.
But wiffys open so many new worlds of model building im not even going to try to calculate the numbers but from what we all build and how many ideas are still being built the numbers are monstrous.
Closed minds open no doors so their always in the same place.

Pass ? The kit comes with gun bays and the ability to display them. You need to cut the gun bay doors out, but the instructions illustrate this.
