North American F2J-1 Twin SeaHorse

In 1943 the US Navy experimented with a North American P-51D Mustang on an aircraft carrier. The trials were successful and 112 Mustangs were ordered as the North American FJ SeaHorse. The Mustang provided a much needed long range capacity for the US carrier force.

When in 1944 the US Navy struggled with the adaptation of the Grumman F7F Tigercat for carrier use, the North American company saw an opportunity to introduce the P-82 Twin Mustang to the Navy as well. In December 1945 the fourth prototype P-82 was modified, navalized and sent to the US Navy. It turned out that the P-82 had the same problems as the Tigercat when operating from an aircraft carrier. It was too heavy and had a high landing speed.

Nevertheless 500 F2J Twin SeaHorse aircraft were ordered in 1945. After the end of hostilities in 1946, production was halted at 207 airframes. Most were delivered as F2J-1 fighters but some were completed as F2J-2 night fighters.

If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Two hooks, one on each side?

Not sure how the landing would go if only one snagged a wire though..............  :-\
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Not really visible on the pictures but there is one hook, with long arms attached to both fuselages.
